Daniel vs Greer

Post by stretch »

The 2023 season is finally here and my Lions will be traveling up to Greer for our week 0 contest. Last season when Greer came to us we left with a big 51-21 victory over the Yellow Jackets. I would love if we left this game with a similar result.

In the Greer film I’ve got to see they played Powdersville and it was competitive game with both teams scoring 6 times. Then they also had a scrimmage/jamboree with Mann and they had a hard time stopping their very good offense. Greer has a very good offense led by their 4 Star Junior RB and two way WR/S who are both dynamic playmakers. The defense has been suspect in the preseason allowing a lot of scores, which is something our offense usually has no problem taking advantage of.

My Lions have a dilemma where we have 4 good QBs but only 1 can be on the field. Our freshman should be there this week since there is no JV game but I still don’t think he is quite ready. The remaining 3 are Chapman, Bush and Turnipseed. Chapman has looked decent in the preseason so I believe he will get the nod to start this game but we will still likely see Bush get a good amount of snaps. Turnipseed moved back to Clemson over the summer and is playing some catch-up but we still may see him depending on how the game goes. Other than the QB position we have an OL that has experience and a 2 headed monster in the backfield at RB with Bennett and Shaw. Receivers look good but not great, it’s hard to replace the talent we’ve had the last 2-3 years. Defense needs to step up and just play up to their talent level. They allowed too many plays against Mann and then redeemed themselves against Crest making big plays but still allowed too many penalties.

I do believe this will be a good game for both teams to start the season. Both teams have talented players but struggled a little bit in the preseason, but by region time I think they’ll both be at the top of their region. I’ll always side with my Lions but I think it’ll be closer than it was last season.

As of now, I think Daniel will win in a 49-48 type of game, our offense has potential to be special but my goodness the defense is just not looking good.

Both teams won’t struggle to put points up that’s for sure. I hope we can get out with a win. It’s been 10 years since we’ve last won at y’all’s stadium, which I admit is one of my favorites that I ever played in despite losing both times I played in there.

I have no idea what to make of this one after barely catching the Lions in the preseason.

Everyone I’ve talked seems really concerned about the lack of weapons on offense and the general consensus is that this year is sort of a gap year before a really special JV group comes up over the next few years.

Honestly, I still like Daniel to take it but the more I hear about the back from Greer, the more Thomas Williams flashbacks I get.

48-20 win for the Lions tonight. We took advantage of Greer mistakes and we did a pretty good job. QB battle is probably not over, Turnipseed got in at the end of the first half and played the whole second and did a good job. Our RBs did an amazing job tonight. Both Shaw and Bennett did fantastic scoring most of the TDs tonight. Defense has to work on tackling, but only allowing 20 points against a good offensive team in Greer with their outstanding RB is not bad for the first game of the year. I wish the best for Greer for the rest of the season, they have some great players.

Martin will be fun for you to watch at the very least. Kid is an animal, if it wasn’t for him it would’ve been 48-0.
