Today (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday) bring a close to the season for all the teams. We will know who the State Champions will be and who will be very disappointed runner ups. May all these kids remember the life lessons learned this year as to what it took to get them to this game.....hard work, sacrifice, self discipline, self control, teamwork, everyone doing their part, playing within "the system", cooperation with others, and having fun. May no one get hurt. May all be good winners and good losers.
To all the seniors that will never wear a uniform again, we, the fans, salute you and your efforts.
To all the seniors that will go on to play at the college level, we, the fans, wish you the best and will try and keep up you. Understand that you are in a select group.....act like it.
To all the underclassmen, we, the fans, look forward to seeing all of you back next year.
To all the non-starters, understand you are the backbone of the success of the team. You put out just as much effort as the starters at all the practices. You do the same drills, workouts, and are required to know the same things. You are expected to be able to step on the field, ready to go, at a moment's notice and perform just like the starter you are replacing. Without all of you, no team would be successful.
To all of you, remember that being an athlete brings an additional level of expected leadership, responsibility, and being a role model to others. Embrace it. Live it. Keep your head screwed on straight. Understand life is lots more that sports. Learn from what sports offers and use that knowledge to better your life.
Remember this, some quotes from my favorite coach....Vince Lombardi, "Winning is not a sometime thing, it is an all the time thing. You don’t do things right once in a while…you do them right all the time." and "Football is a great deal like life in that it teaches that work, sacrifice, perseverance, competitive drive, selflessness and respect for authority is the price that each and every one of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile." and finally "The object is to win fairly, by the rules – but to win."
