Right now if I were handicapping the 5A title race....the top 5 favorites would look like this...
1. Summerville
2. Byrnes
3. Gaffney
4. White Knoll
5. Hanna
Give me your thoughts...

The ville has developed a lot since sumter game.
They have a real good shot .
Wasn't sold on them at that point.

Gaffney Looking good for the upper state and Summerville for the lower state. Got Gaffney winning it all.
Re: 5A State Title...setting odds...
Saw fort play both I'll disagree .to many weapons on the ville offense.

Hope springs eternal in the Dutch Fork faithful. Even after this rough season...I gotta believe.

I'm sticking with my preseason prediction, Byrnes or Spartanburg.
Re: 5A State Title...setting odds...
Gaffney is one of the few teams that may have the talent to play with Summerville. But can Gaffney bring their A game for 5 weeks to win it all? I don’t think so. Too inconsistent. They basically gave Byrnes the game last Friday.
Re: 5A State Title...setting odds...
I don't know much about Summerville. The only common opponent I can think of with Dutch Fork is Stratford- from the scoreboard that seemed to be a decent game with Summerville....DF had Stratford 34-0 at the half and 47-0 going into the 4th quarter. Stratford may have been off against DF and red hot against Summerville, but against DF that was when DF had a bunch of starters out, including their QB. Byrnes looks good but games like Chapman and Dorman give me pause...they barely beat Dorman, which River Bluff did the same and DF ran RB out of the stadium. Again, might have been an off night.
Just have to wait and see...

Totally disagree with this assessment... two awesome defensive units that pushed each other from kickoff to final buzzer. Byrnes and Gaffney both made turnovers because they had to execute flawlessly and you can't do that 100% of the time.
The Chapman game was an example of "YOU HAVE TO SHOW UP READY TO PLAY" and it gave me pause as well - The Rebels thought they didn't need to worry about Chapman and for that, you pay a price.DFOLDMAN wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 1:18 pmI don't know much about Summerville. Dorman was a RIVALY game against a team that took advantage of mistakes. Mistakes #1 and #2 were bad passes that turned into PICK SIX plays. Mistake #3 was going to "PREVENT DEFENSE" instead of sticking with what had worked all night. The only scores Dorman had until the 4th quarter final minutes were those PICK SIX plays. Rebels left the defense that had held them in check and played deep and loose and the Cavs found the holes and took advantage of the situation.
Byrnes play calling has been an issue all season. Consistency as well.

I'm thinking about entering the transfer portal!

Tell me about it. Preaching to the choir. DF had the same issue against Lexington. Pick six / interceptions kept that game from being a lot worse than it was. DF seems to get into a fog from time to time during a game- luckily doesn't last long but staying focused wins ball games...focused on execution. Byrnes looks to be the cream of the crop from the Upper State bracket. Everyone needs to bring their A game now.Rebel-Fan-74 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 2:10 pmTotally disagree with this assessment... two awesome defensive units that pushed each other from kickoff to final buzzer.
