After another big win over Chester, the Lions earned themselves a trip to the upperstate championship game where they face one of our biggest rivals in BHP. This rivalry goes all the way back to when Belton and Honea Path High Schools were combined and we had played a total of 53 times with Daniel holding the edge 32-21. Over the last 20 years it was a game that would be big in deciding the region title. Last year was the first time these teams didn’t play since 1975, but after a one year hiatus they meet with a trip to the state title on the line.
Both teams are undefeated at 13-0 and are averaging over 49+ points per game. They have 3 common opponents in Walhalla, Pendleton and Wren. Daniel is more balanced in their offensive game, but BHP is all about the ground and pound.
BHP is led by their dynamic RB Henderson who has rushed for over 2,000 yards on the year and has scored 36 TDs which is a very impressive season for him. He has company in the backfield with Robbs and Lathon who combined have over 1,600 yards. The QB has some good numbers too but he hasn’t been asked to do much in big games, his stats came against their lesser competition.
I hope both teams show up and play their best games because that will make this game even more fun to be at. This one is definitely the best game in the upstate. So much talent on both teams and with this being a rivalry game it is going to be a huge one.

Re: Daniel vs BHP
Should be a game for the ages
I would expect a HUGE crowd, lot of folks that zero ties to either school planning on being there
Have not seen Daniel play this year but did see BHP against Westside. BHP runs ball as good as anyone I have ever seen, just saw the only back in SC I would compare to Henderson at MV this week when I saw Dunbar run against the Rams. (40 carries 306 yards and 8 TD’s) however I still think Henderson is better back and can catch the ball well too
I want to say BHP wins in a close one but not sure they can pull it off
This one will come down to special teams and turnovers is my guess

Re: Daniel vs BHP
I went to the BHP Clinton game and it was an absolute slug feast. I think BHP left that game knowing they played a tough Red Devil team. With that being said I don't know if BHP has much left in the tank to play a team like Daniel. BHP will be 10x more physical than Daniel but I think Daniel has had a cake walk as usual through the playoffs. They will have healthy guys while BHP tries to keep moving forward. I think the game is competitive until he last quarter when BHP finally runs out of gas. Daniel by 14

Might be making the trip to watch this one. Can you pay cash at the gate? I know most places still do and some you can’t

Great! Thanks
Re: Daniel vs BHP
All I really have to say is wow. This was maybe one of the best football games I’ve seen in a while. The game started rough for my Lions with empty possessions and allowing BHP to capitalize to jump out to an early lead. My Lions did not panic and they played some gritty defense to force stops and we took a 14-10 lead. I will say BHPs RB who has carried them all throughout the season is an immensely talented player, but he gets flustered easily and gets stuffed. But just as quick as he gets flustered he snaps back and breaks off for a big run. We can fast forward to the 4th where the Lions held a slim 28-23 lead late in the game. We had been stifling the run and the Bears had no momentum. But our QB made costly mistakes that he’s been lucky to avoid up to this point in the year and it looked like it would bite us in the ass with a strip sack on our side of the field. BHP takes it all the way to the 2 yard line where on the handoff they fumble and the Lions recover to end the game and send us back to the state title game. The energy in this game was electric and maybe the best environment in new Singleton Field since it was built. I’m proud of this team for continuing to fight and make its way back to the doorstep of a championship. We still have plenty to improve on and the coaches will get them ready but for now we should soak this great victory in.
