Re: 24-26 Realignment is Here!!!
3A is going to be interesting. I count 8 schools that do not have football. I didn't take a stab at actual regions, but I've grouped them into geographic areas. It looks like there are 19 schools in the upstate, 15 with football. That leads me to believe Newberry will be in one of the upstate regions to even things out. I would go with 8-8-6-7-6 for football, 10-10-8-9-6 for other sports.
Here's the 3A map.

Re: 24-26 Realignment is Here!!!
This issue was enough to have me finally register here and post.
I will preface this by saying that I was in the meetings that led up to this a few years ago. I no longer coach, having gone into admin (school and then district level) and thought I would share some perspective.
I wish I could say this will be the direction SCHSL will take going forward, because I think we just need an answer and move forward, but I fear there is still quite a bit of turbulence ahead. I will speak from a Lowcountry perspective.
Now some would say this move was driven by the concept of maintaining competitive balance, and to some extent, that argument has merit based on how some of the new, sports-centric charter schools have impacted 1A and 2A (given that private schools Christ Church, St. Joseph's and BE were already doing very well also). However, make no mistake, if the 5A schools aren't bothered, little change will happen. We tried to make some changes about 5 years ago, but there is legislation that prevents charter schools from being impacted in a way that would be punitive. Thus, the current solution impacts ALL schools, and does not single out charter or private schools.
Unfortunately, some schools will be impacted in ways that hurt their athletes. It is hard to believe that Charleston Math and Science will benefit moving up to 3A.
I saw someone mention that JI will appeal. They will struggle with that. JI is a charter school and the overwhelming majority of Caucasian students that live on Johns Island and are zoned for St. Johns go there. They also accept several students that are zoned for Burke and Baptist Hill. That is a choice.
Kids going to certain schools for sports reasons has been happening for years. For example, DD2 allows kids to transfer to a high school that offers a program their home school doesn't. Funny how many kids want to take Agriculture at Ashley Ridge that just happen to play soccer.
A cynic might say that now that the 5A schools are losing some of those athletes, change had to happen.

I think American Leadership and Mountain View will have football. I still can't figure out how you take a stab at realignment when supposedly SC will be open enrollment across the state next year. If that happens some of the these schools numbers will drop and increase quite a bit.SF Band dad wrote: ↑Wed Dec 20, 2023 6:27 pm3A is going to be interesting. Hey, would you mind giving a shot at the 2a regions? Thank you very much.SF Band dad wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 6:27 pmHere's a map of the proposed 5A schools. I took a shot at dividing them into regions. I ended up with 8-7-7-7-7-6-6-6.

Which schools out of the 38 3A schools won't play football?SF Band dad wrote: ↑Wed Dec 20, 2023 6:27 pm3A is going to be interesting. I count 8 schools that do not have football. Here's the 3A map.
Also, I noticed some schools on your 3A map that seem out of place.
Wade Hampton of Hampton merged with Estill to make 2A Hampton County High School, and I am quite sure that Ridgeland-Hardeeville is splitting into two 1A schools (Ridgeland Secondary High School and Hardeeville High School).
And Woodland is simply staying in 2A.
