Can't besmirch the legacy of something the late great Barry Byers wasn't responsible for coining. He wrote an article about a poster on the old SCPigskinprep website who called Rock Hill, Football City, USA and somehow Barry got credit for coining the phrase. The poster did!

Re: Any Word on Rock Hill Head Coaching Search?
The name Football City USA was not created in print or on a messageboard. The first time the name was used was during half-time of the Northwestern-South Pointe 2008 State Championship game. The late Barry Byers and WRHI broadcaster, Gene Knight, used the term when describing the talent on the field for that game (Stephon Gilmore, Jadeveon Clowney, Cordarelle Patterson, Justin Worley, Gerald Dixon, Gerald Dixon Jr, Roderick Byers, DeVonte Holloman, etc). Gene likened Rock Hill to Green Bay with the "Titletown USA" name, then Barry said, exactly, Rock Hill is like Football City USA. It was heard live on WRHI during the half-time show of the game. The following year, "a poster" by the name of WRHIRadio on SCPigskinprep called Rock Hill Football City USA when promoting the upcoming game between Rock Hill and Northwestern. It was then used on-air for the entire 2009 season with Barry writing the first article on it that fall before the Northwestern-South Pointe game. 8 months later, ESPN's Chris Low (former RH Herald employee), wrote the now famous Football City USA article that went viral for ESPN.TrojanPride80 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2024 5:41 pmCan't besmirch the legacy of something the late great Barry Byers wasn't responsible for coining. That is the story of how the name came to be.
