I think this will be a good game, Byrnes defense has played well this season, and I actually think they are flying a little bit under the radar. If they can get healthy they will be a tough out for anyone come playoff time. Spartanburg seems to be clicking at the right time, with the offense and running game especially looking really good.
I could easily see this being a 17-10 type of game. Give me the Vikings by 7. Thoughts?

What I saw of the Rebs early in the season, they were gawd-awful. The Vikings should win.Greerfan1 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 12:45 pmI think this will be a good game, Byrnes defense has played well this season, and I actually think they are flying a little bit under the radar. 28-9 win over Eastside and if you look at the Highlights on MAXPREPS.COM you will see ONLY defensive plays for the Rebels. I think there were 4 turnovers for Eastside, 5 or 6 SACKS and at least two or three other plays where he threw it away just before being Sacked.
OT loss to Gaffney two weeks ago that easily could have been a 7-6 Rebel win, with probably less than 100 yards of offense.
14-3 Win over Dorman before that, again with very limited offense.
Notice a trend? If there was a healthy Rebel RB and a QB that could stay healthy for more than 3 or 4 plays; this might be a good game.

This should be a good game but Spartanburg blew Eastside away putting up 49 points and only allowed them 7.But Rebs and Vikings always play tough against one another..Rebel-Fan-74 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 2:43 pm28-9 win over Eastside and if you look at the Highlights on MAXPREPS.COM you will see ONLY defensive plays for the Rebels. Re: Byrnes vs Spartanburg
Spartanburg still has 3-4 offensive starters out, unless someone comes back this week.
Our best WR has barely played this year, two offensive lineman were out last week.
I said it last week, the 2nd half against boiling springs was dismal... Spartanburg has to get healthy and at some point they gotta let Burke stretch the field a lil bit more.
I'll take Spartanburg by a TD, but it will not surprise me at all if this game is ugly and closer than that.

I just don't think this game will be that close. The Rebels are sub .500 and got beat by Greer. I know it was a scrimmage, but it was just before the season started and DF steamrolled Byrnes...saw a little film and it was as bad as the score indicated. I don't see this game being really close- not a blowout I don't think because of history and the rivalry but definitely not a nail biter.Noble Savage wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 5:30 amSpartanburg still has 3-4 offensive starters out, unless someone comes back this week.

Re: Byrnes vs Spartanburg
Byrnes has the opportunity to really put a hitch in the Vikings hopes and dreams of winning the region if they can beat the Vikings Friday night. I never would've thought that I would ever see Byrnes below .500 again and this season it has happened. I just never thought in my wildest dreams that Byrnes would fall off the map as bad as they have this season. I know they lost some key pieces to other schools (via the transfer portal). But surely that wouldn't mean that the talent pool is dried up in Duncan or is it something deeper than talent and maybe the kids and maybe the fans have given up on the commander and chief of the Rebels and they have gave up hope on HPO and Strike Force defense that were big time in the 2010's.

This is the week to let Burke stretch the field, what I saw against Byrnes is the secondary is not very good.Noble Savage wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 5:30 amSpartanburg still has 3-4 offensive starters out, unless someone comes back this week.

From 2002 to 2011 (ten year span) we were in 9 state championship games (8-1) and made it to the Quarter Finals in 2006. Between those years, the program was headed up by Bentley and Miller and those two ran a complete program throughout the entire year. It started in D5 Youth Football and ran through all the way to the final game of your Senior Year. In 2012 & 13 we made it to the Semifinals and the loss of Bentley and Miller signaled a different leader in Duncan. During his tour in Duncan, Brian Lane learned an important lesson, (the hard way) that at this level, you have to hire the best coaches you can find for every position on your staff, not necessarily friends. And it appears that he learned that lesson quite well....racincowboy02 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 10:31 amI never would've thought that I would ever see Byrnes below .500 again and this season it has happened. I have no doubt that Coach Shaw is a good man! I have no doubt that he is a good coach! I have doubts that he is the one to lead us back to a dominant level because there doesn't seem to be the fire and excitement among the players that used to be there in years past. Now is that due to the coach? Is it due to the players? Is it because "THINGS" are different now? By that, I mean the OPEN RECRUITING and TRANSFER PORTAL that seems to be happening with no action on the part of the SCHSL. I mean it is everywhere.... Gaffney hasn't had a "home grown" quarterback in several seasons. J L Mann is loaded with "transfers". Is it the new way for High School Football? I mean, MVP, Gray, Oceanside, are all catching flak from folks but traditional schools are doing it too.
I don't want to be the little boy crying WOLF! but maybe the traditional way of pulling for the team that you watched in Youth Football, then 7th grade and finally getting to Varsity is a thing of the past. I guess High School Coaches are going to have to be going to the Tommy Knotts School of Recruiting during the off season!
