Post by fbcoachrrr »

Just curious what D1 and D2 teams have clinched an auto bid...or have so many points that an at-large bid is a given...

Welcome to the board.

Look here for maximum and minimum points.
http://www.scpreptalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1340

Automatic Bids will be much clearer after this week's games...
(who needs to win, etc...)

A list now might seem short in some Regions.
Many teams still have a shot...

For Example in Region 1...(8 team Region)
Only 1 team, TL Hanna is mathematically eliminated.

Easley (2-3)region record still has a mathematical shot at the playoffs.
--go 2-0, while Laurens goes 0-2 and Easley would get an automatic bid in Region One.

I don't have it broken down exactly as you were looking at, because of Region Automitic bids, etc, it can get a little muddy, even with only two games left.

HOWEVER, I'm willing to give it a shot...

I don't see any way that you would see a set of brackets without these teams on one or the other... unless they get removed for administrative actions.

School Points Mark Off Playoff Points
Fort Dorchester 43 6.5 36.5
Dutch Fork 42 6 36
Stratford 42 6 36
Byrnes 41.5 6 35.5
Dorman 41.5 6 35.5
Fort Mill 41.5 6 35.5
Goose Creek 39.5 4 35.5
Hillcrest 41 6 35
Northwestern 40.5 6 34.5
Westside 40.5 6 34.5
Westwood 40.5 6 34.5
York 40.5 6 34.5
South Florence 40 6 34
White Knoll 39.5 6 33.5
Summerville 39.5 6 33.5
Greenwood 39 6 33
Spartanburg 35 2 33
Laurens 39 6 33
Ashley Ridge 38 5 33
Wando 39 6 33

These are about 85% or more of a lock...
either by Region Standings or total points alone.
School Points Mark Off Playoff Points
Mauldin 38.5 6 32.5
Socastee 38.5 6 32.5
Cane Bay 38.5 6 32.5
North Augusta 38.5 6 32.5
Riverside 37.5 6 31.5

These are the teams that need help.

* = could get an AUTOMATIC BERTH even with "low
point totals"
# - with one or more wins could get the point totals
to the place where they are about 50%-50% of getting in.

The others are in the less than 5% chance of playoffs
due to not getting an Automatic Berth and low point totals.

Good analysis by Rebel-Fan-74

Basically if your minimum point total is 33; you are pretty much guaranteed in at this point.
If your minimum is 32.5 points, then you are in good shape but not guaranteed.

Most of the projections that I have input this year have the final At-large team in at either 32.5 or 32 points.
Recently "some" projections that I have done actually had a couple teams battling for the final spot with 31.5 points.
The number dropping is due to the parity/upsets that we have seen this year.
This number can fluctuate back up or down. We'll see...

Huge games for many teams this Friday.

And if Gaffney gets in the automatic at 31.5 as well as say.... Lexington at 31.5.... then the at large number could be 32.5 and at one time, I had 6 teams within 0.5 points +/- for the final two spots... What's amazing, the difference of a AAA team getting to 6-5 shaking up the AAAA bracket, deciding which AAAA team gets in and which one breaks out the basketball equipment....

A specific example:
Beaufort getting to 6-5 could push Colleton County into the playoffs, but if Beaufort finishes 5-5 and loses in the first round of the AAA Playoffs, Colleton County may not get in.... Using the current projections, changing only Beaufort's record to NON-WINNING... Colleton County would not be in the projections this week...I went back and ran the numbers... a AAA team's record determining the outcome of the AAAA Bracket.

A real example: A few years ago Lake City (2A at the time) won their first round playoff game making their record 6-5. This made them a 3 point win for South Florence.

This allowed SF to mark-off the 3 point loss to Sumter and count the Lake City game instead, they were both 3 point games but Lake City's opponents had more wins than Sumter's opponents.

Result: South Florence gets the last at-large slot ahead of Beaufort based on opponent wins.
