Margins of victory this year

Is it just my imagination or are teams playing each other tighter this year?

I think that is borne out by the actuality there does not appear to be many, if any, truly dominant teams this year. Many team's fortunes have been determined by just a few points and just a few mistakes (penalties and/or turnovers and/or just some flat missed tackles).
