First look at the brackets... game by game

Post by Rebel-Fan-74 »

#1 Goose Creek
#16 River Bluff
Welcome to the AAAA Playoffs there River Bluff! Battle of the Gators.

#8 Westside
#9 York
Usually on of the best match ups of the first round is the 8=9 game... this one looks to be a good match up of coaches and teams. If your team isn't playing, it may be worth the price of admission!

#4 Westwood
#13 Colleton County
Maybe the best team you know nothing about in Westwood and the "COMEBACK TEAM OF THE YEAR" in Colleton County. Down for some time, it appears that the CC team has made improvements and may be on the right track to become a factor in Region VIII again.

#5 Greenwood
#12 Laurens
REMATCH and does anyone think it will be any different than it was last night?

#2 South Florence
#15 Blythewood
REMATCH from Week six. South Florence has not been as consistent as Band Dad would have liked, but maybe they turn it up a notch now that the challenges are turned up. This one should give the Bruins one last chance to be in "tune up" mode as the competition the rest fo the way will be tougher.

#7 North Augusta
#10 Cane Bay
Cane Bay has looked awesome at times, then other times they looked as if they had no business in the playoff discussion. I wouldn't be shocked if Cane Bay pulls this upset, but then again, I wouldn't be surprised if North Augusta blows them out!

#3 Stratford
#14 Socastee
Stratford will welcome the Socastee Braves to the playoffs and I don't expect them to be nice about it... Many folks think a rematch with Goose Creek is coming, but there is a long way to go before that. For a new team to the AAAA Ranks, Socastee had a respectable year.

#6 Spartanburg
#11 Riverside
Riverside has made tremendous strides {especially when you factor in the Greenville County aspect... seriously folks, Greenville County gives ZERO support to their football programs}. Chris Miller has the Vikings looking good and Scott is a legit quarterback even though he really lacks the size that most D1 programs look for. Look for the Vikes to put this one away early.

#1 Ft Dorchester
#16 Gaffney
Come on it's #1 -vs- #16... yeah, no biggie... except that Gaffney just beat Northwestern and Ashley Ridge just beat Fort Dorchester...maybe the most watched #1 -vs- #16 game ever?

#8 Summeville
#9 Sumter
GoBigGreen's Wave at home in week one (STAY FOCUSED ON WEEK ONE, DON'T LOOK AT THE POSSIBLE WEEK TWO MATCH UP) facing the Sumter Gamecocks. Seriously, if you look ahead, you could be playing basketball.

#4 White Knoll
#13 Lexington
REMATCH and possible payback? from Week 11. Region Five has been so weird this season, who knows what happens here...

#5 Hillcrest
#12 Ashley Ridge
A #5 seeded team that no one outside of Region One can really tell you anything about them? Two seasons in a row and not just because of one player, but the Rams face a team fresh off a win over the overall #1 seed.

#2 Dutch Fork
#15 Mauldin
The difference in a year couldn't be more evident than in Mauldin. Last year an offensive machine! This year, well they played a bunch of BIG16 teams with winning records and those bonus points got them in the playoffs. Honestly, without the bonus points they wouldn't have been any where close.... Dutch Fork could score all night!

#7 Fort Mill
#10 Dorman
If Dorman wins, it is an 'UPSET".... and if you believe that, I have some ocean front property for sale just outside of Knoxville, Tennessee... Some of you Region III guys, fill us in with some details on the Fort Mill Jackets.

#3 Byrnes
#14 Boiling Springs
REMATCH: At one time, back in August, I thought the first match up would go a long way in determining Region Championship and potential playoff seedings... I for one, do not expect another blow out at Nixon Field this time around.

#6 Northwestern
#11 Wando
Northwestern doesn't go after another Division II trophy this year and faces a different group of teams in the playoffs, beginning with Wando. One of the smallest Division One teams versus the Largest Division One school..... Expect the Air Raid to be reeling after the game last night, I don't know if Northwestern forgot to show up or if Gaffney just totally outplayed them?

There is no doubt Summerville's coaching staff will have the boys focused on Sumter. That will not be too hard to do considering Sumter knocked us out of the playoffs last year. As far as looking ahead, who do you look ahead to? Like you said, Gaffney just ran over NW and AR knocked off FD. Either game would be exciting but one game at a time...Sumter first.

I can't argue with that. We took several shots at our own foot again last night, giving WF the ball deep in our own territory 3 times in the 1st half. Only good defensive play prevented us from being down 21-7 at halftime, but we held them to field goals twice and only trailed 13-7.

I have to give WF some credit, those kids showed up to play. Their student section last night was the largest and noisiest I have ever seen at a high school football game.

The injury bug is starting to take over a little bit. Our top two running backs are done for the year, Anderson with an ACL and Jenkins with an ankle injury, and we lost safety Erick Weston in practice last week to an ACL. We don't have anywhere near the defense we had last year. Our front line are all sophomores. With that being said we still have Ky'Jon Tyler and Zay Burson and our o-line has gotten better. Our best defense is our offense. If we keep it close and maximize possessions I like our chances but if we have to punt and kick field goals, I'll be talking about the basketball team instead of the football team next week.

Summerville is certainly no stranger to the injury bug. Thankfully however, we are about back to 100% after nearly half the season with key players very banged up. Summerville played their best half of football last week in the 2nd half against Ashley Ridge outscoring them 41-0 after trailing at the half 23-10. This past Friday they simply overpowered a much smaller Bluffton squad and just coasted to an easy win while resting most starters the entire 2nd half. Sumter is riding a 4 game winning streak and beat a Stratford squad which we lost to. We will certainly have to bring our A game and stay focused on the task at hand and resist the temptation to look ahead. Really looking forward to getting the playoffs kicked off this coming Friday....

LOL....believe me Old Cat, that game could have been a whole lot worse. I am not sure if Bluffton has 40 players on the team. Coach McKissick called the dogs off as he always does once the outcome was certain.
