A little history on the 'Ville. A rural area that saw the mills go the way of the dodo.DFOLDMAN wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 4:22 pmHopefully, DF wins Friday and wins 5A D1, Irmo wins 5A D2, Gray wins 4A and Oceanside wins 3A and I will repost my statement...and thank you for the much-needed history lesson... forgot Abbeville. Their fans probably think they can beat the Foxes...good on them.WRHIRadio wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 3:51 pmIts difficult to call this the "DeFacto" All classifications state championship considering that Dutch Fork will not play Northwestern and Westside (current undefeated teams) or teams like Gaffney, South Pointe, etc.
Northwestern and Dutch Fork did match-up in the WRHI Football City USA KickOff, however, with Northwestern winning 15-14. While, yes, it was pre-season, I think its fair to say to anyone who witnessed it that both of those teams were trying extremely hard to win that game. Both squads played starters the entire contest. Who would win in a playoff or regular season game, who knows? But, based on that result, I don't think you can say who is better between those two squads. If forced to make a decision, wouldn't you have to go with the team that won?
As for the Irmo being the Football Capital. Yes, I will give you that Dutch Fork has been the premier team in 5A over the past decade. But, Irmo has just recently started to become competitive on a statewide level (just one state title in 1980). So, really its about Dutch Fork. So, why not say Abbeville is the football capital (8 state championships since 2010) they could surely make a claim.
Its tough to argue against Football City USA remaining the "Capital" of the state. As a CITY, it remains the have the highest percentage of NFL players, per capita, in the entire USA. In addition, since 2008, teams from Football City USA have won 10 state championships and have enjoyed 15 State championship appearances (including a game where two teams from the city played each other for the State Championship).
So, to the point of this post. Yes, Dutch Fork, for the last decade (along with Abbeville) has been the premier team in the state. But, as for the city of Irmo being the "capital" of football in this state. No, many cities can make that claim before Irmo (Rock Hill, Gaffney, Dillon, Spartanburg, just to name a few).
But, without a DOUBT that is the game of the week and quite possibly the year on Friday night! Should be an amazing one!
Again...just a game.... played by kids.... doesn't amount to much in the grand scheme of things, but we enjoy the entertainment.

Won a AAA state championship in 1971.
Won a AA 1981.
Won a A 1991.
Won AA in 1996.
Won A in 2010.
Won A 2011.
Won AA in 2015.
Won AA in 2016.
Won AA in 2017.
Won AA in 2018.
Won AA in 2020.
Won AA in 2022.
The only program to win a state championship in 4 classifications. They are 10-16-4 versus Greenwood (next county rival), 6-7 versus Lincoln County (you better know who that is), 16-3 versus the charter/privates, 10-6 versus Laurens.... they get it done. The best closest team that has an edge on the 'Ville is Batesburg Leesville at 25-27.... and there's some history to that more than outcomes.....
Abbeville can line up with anyone in the state. They might not win, but the other side will bleed a bit in order to get that win.
Re: De Facto All Classifications State Championship
No matter what town you live in high school football is the best. Enjoy the successes of your team and struggle when they aren’t winning, but support the kids who play their hearts out every Friday night. This board is all about that, most of the time. Let’s keep it that way.
In the mean time Go Trojans! I’d actually enjoy a little college football playoff edition.
Who would be your statewide all classifications 12 team bracket?
I believe our Trojans would run the table as many of you would stand behind your favorite team in your community.
The way things are Dutch Fork appears to have a pretty easy trip to the trophy this year.
Northwestern is more tested than Irmo - depending on this weekend.
Southpointe better not be ignored in 4A. Don’t crown Westside yet.
Who would be your 12?
Dutch Fork
Northwestern
Westside
Abbeville
Gaffney?
Spartanburg?
Gray?
Daniel
Oceanside
Lewisville

Re: De Facto All Classifications State Championship
Good idea. I like the "inclusion" but smaller schools just could not compete well. Even 3A is stretch...DF played Oceanside, and it was 48-0 at the half. I would take the 12 best...I know that would be subjective but make it reasonable. My two cents.NHSTrojan wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 7:42 pmNo matter what town you live in high school football is the best. 1 Dutch Fork
2 Irmo (Tie)
2 Northwestern (Tie)
2 Spartanburg (Tie)
2 Gaffney (Tie)
6 Westside
7 Summerville
8 South Pointe
9 Sumter
10 Hanna
11 Mann
12 River Bluff/Daniel/White Knoll (Tie)...honestly any of those. Daniel has a better record, but White Knoll has played a tougher schedule and I'm not sure RB could beat WK again- went to overtime the first time. BHP, Oceanside, Gray, Ridge View... might look at one of them too.

Re: De Facto All Classifications State Championship
Honestly, the regular 5 classifications setting seemed to work okay. This new classification system is silly, especially with 5A. Some GREAT playoff match ups... but this is all conjecture... One game at a time-Irmo Yellow Jackets are for real. If Brand has a signature game and DF makes mistakes....DF might win another state title but be the #2 team in Irmo...haha. We all pull for Irmo HS...when they aren't playing DF. Good Luck to both! Well...maybe not.

Re: De Facto All Classifications State Championship
Friday night should be a lot of fun for the Irmo community and certainly both schools. This game should be played every year. Sounds like Coach Brand needs to answer that question. DF needs some help in Irmo, beyond a year or two, in order to even begin the con about another football city in SC.
AJ is really talented. Have not seen him in person and certainly haven’t seen a number of the great players from this state. Le Otis Sellars combo of size and speed is unmatched in my opinion. If Knotts had to play him a couple years ago he would agree.

Re: De Facto All Classifications State Championship
TK psyops. LOL. TK has seen a parade of great QBs both coaching and coaching against. Joyner at Fort D comes to mind. Joyner only lost three games as a starting QB during HS...one guess who the opposing coach was...NHSTrojan wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2024 8:24 amFriday night should be a lot of fun for the Irmo community and certainly both schools. TK and DC are watching film now, I'm sure. DF defense against Irmo Offense will be the marquee matchup, but I think the key is how DF offense matches up against the Irmo defense. Interesting match up there. Win or lose a great game and he is right- it must be an annual game, ...in HS Football City USA. Would be like Dorman and Spartanburg not playing each year.

Re: De Facto All Classifications State Championship
Looks like the DF JV team beat Irmo JV 42-6 last night. DF JV team finished undefeated 8-0. Outscored their opponents 355-46. Some stellar sophomores on that team- future looks bright. Hopefully the varsity can win one too tonight. Will be traveling to Tennessee this evening so all you guys on here are going to have to pull for the Foxes for me tonight!!

24-14 Foxes is the final. Held Irmo scoreless in the second half. Good tune up for the playoffs. Irmo is the real deal 5A D2.
