Well, addressing your first part of this response. You should be able to understand why someone would react the way I did when you make a comment like that. Like I said, I don't know them PERSONALLY as you claim to, but I am never one to question anyone's knowledge of something if they are being PAID to do it and I am just an amateur (which anyone on here who is not being paid by an organization for our knowledge is, by definition, an amateur).Rebel-Fan-74 wrote:OK, first of all, I need to make a correction to my comment... I would imagine that they have some knowledge of the game since they are being paid to do it. Last time I checked no one was paying me, or many of the other posters on here for our football knowledge. So, who am I to question someone's knowledge of football that is being paid to give their knowledge. Obviously they know enough to have a job doing it. Do I know more than them? I am not sure. But I do know that just because someone disagrees with my OPINION on the rankings of teams doesn't mean they don't know anything about the sport.
"There are one or two names on that list that wouldn't know a football if saw it....."
I actually know a few of those rascals and was only trying to poke them a little bit.
Second, I never disagreed with anything and I'm not sure where you got that from, but I don't put a lot of importance on polls. I will put on together myself from time to time, but they are nothing but someone's opinion. And we are all biased, even if we don't admit it. For example, the bulk of the names on that list have direct ties to a team. Byrnes play by play guy, Spartanburg Vikings play by play guy, etc and etc. In addition to the fact that many have direct ties to a team, you also have area biases since most of the guys are located between Rock Hill and Spartanburg. They also have full time jobs, so the TOP TEN is a part time gig. They have to focus on their teams and their full time jobs, so they really don't have time to research teams from other areas. So in essence, they are no different than any other real fan of High School Football.
I'm not saying my poll is any better or any worse than this list, I'm just saying we all have our ideas on who is worthy of a TOP TEN vote. Penguin may be the best poll I've seen....
#1 Dutch Fork
it doesn't matter after that.
I have one on another thread, right there with NEWCAT. Go check it out and show my how bad my poll is...
Don't jump to conclusions on me with just one view at one post. I'll promise you the same....
As for your "Second", I think you can understand why someone would believe you would "disagree" with a poll that you made the following comment about: "If you are waiting for this group to come up with a real TOP TEN, you could be here a while." Most people would assume that comment means you disagree with their top ten. But, in your world that just means "You don't put a lot of importance into polls." My question to YOU then is, Why not just say "I don't put a lot of importance into polls." instead of making a snide comment about the polls that, according to you, have no importance?
We will have to disagree on Amateurs (us) having the same knowledge as Professionals (anyone PAID to do a job). While they may have FULL TIME jobs, they are being paid for their knowledge of the game, which despite what we want to believe on here, means their opinions are valued more than ours. Does that mean they can be wrong? Sure. But we can't sit here and make a blanket statement like "They are no different than any other real fan of high school football." Because in fact, they are different. While you and I, and most everyone else on this board PAY to go to games on Friday night, they are being PAID to broadcast, report, and ultimately give opinions on what they saw, so by definition that makes them different from us and most real football fans.
As for area bias, there are area bias' in EVERY POLL and EVERY TOP ten. Heck, even the College Football Playoff committee has area bias'. That claim will always be there, no matter where voters are from.
