Here is a map of 5A.

I will create maps of the other classifications over the next couple of days.

dacoach wrote:This is interesting.... not the numbers, but the release. All I heard anyone saying for weeks was that the official numbers would be released by the High School League sometime mid-Dec. Then the committee would work on the alignment proposal and it would be released in late January or early February... then BOOM... the whole thing drops Dec 19th.

I find that very odd.

I agree. I want to know what adjustments were made to the raw totals from the Dept. of Education. ...and is this THE proposal or a starting point for discussion and amendment?

First thoughts, well, looking at regions 3, 4 and 6 it's pretty clear they no longer give much weight to fuel costs and time kids will spend on buses.

Sumter is getting hosed, but that is somewhat self-inflicted by not balancing attendance between Sumter, Lakewood and Crestwood. (Lw and Cw have dropped to 3A.)

OK I am so confused by this proposal or whatever you want to call this crap. I don't get the whole Gaffney and Boiling Springs to region 3 with Clover Fort Mill Nations Ford that blows my mind when you have Rock Hill and NW that would be closer to us and they put them in region 4

Looking at the map, it appears they started at TL Hanna and worked their way east on I-26 and then south on I-77, forming 5 team regions. Look at what this proposal does to the Rock Hill and Richland schools....

If these are to be the 5A teams a 6-6-5-8-5-5-5 split would be much more compact, Sumter would still get hosed on their region schedule.

I wish they had published the attendance numbers, it would be useful to know who the next 2 to 4 schools are. Maybe 42 or 44 would have worked better.

I still say this state is too small for 5A. The system we had before was about as fair as you can make it. D1 was basically 5A but we all played together in region play where now you can’t make regions work with 40 or less teams. They wanted 5 classes and now we have an unfair mess to the bottom schools. I still haven’t figured out how WF is in 4A and Conway in 5A. I want to see the enrollment numbers.

That will never happen. Crestwood and Lakewood were built to house 1000 students a piece. Sumter - 2500

Perhaps, but it is not just football. I feel bad for all those kids from Sumter who will have to tolerate those 4 hour round trips to their "region" opponents over in Horry county.
