I don't know if this post could be anymore wrong. First off Craig hasn't been the AD at Timberland for at least 2 years, don't know what brought about the change but one of the assistant principles has had AD duties the last couple of years. Secondly there is plenty of room for expansion within Timberland's attendance zone it would just require some actual investment from the county and the school district so it probably won't happen until they are finished filling up the rest of the county. Thirdly Timberland has never had a big portion of it's students come from the areas it lost to Phillip Simmons, the vast majority of the students at Timberland have always come from areas that would have gone to the old Macedonia and St. Stephens with only a handful coming from the old Cainhoy High...most of those students went to Hanahan after the schools closure. To say that Timberland has suffered a big loss of players due to the opening of Phillip Simmons (not on Daniel Island by the way) is flat out idiotic. There are probably more kids that are zoned to go to Timberland that go to Berkeley every year than Timberland lost to Phillip Simmons.CITYSLICKER wrote:I DON'T THINK ITS A PROMOTION, HE WAS ONLY ONE OF TWO COACHES LEFT IN BERKELEY COUNTY THAT WERE BOTH HEAD COACHES AND ATHLETIC DIRECTORS, AT HANAHAN, HE WONT BE BOTH, THE ONLY MOTIVATION I CAN SEE IS A CHANGE OF BEING IN THE DESTITUTE COUNTRY TO THE CITY WITH STREET LIGHTS AND PUBLIC WATER. BOTH SCHOOLS ARE LAND LOCKED, CANT EXPAND, TIMBERLAND HAS SUFFERED A BIG LOSS OF PLAYERS DUE TO OPENING THE SCHOOL ON DANIEL ISLAND, THE OTHER COACH THAT GETS BOTH SALARIES IS THE CROSS COACH.
As far as why Craig left Timberland, what more could he have done at Timberland? 19 years at the school 18 straight winning seasons (won at least 7 games in every winning season I believe), something like 15 region titles, 3 state title game appearances and 2 state titles. All of his kids are out of high school (out of college too I believe) and his wife already works at one of the schools in Hanahan. He has to be getting close to being able to retire and I would imagine wants a new challenge. At Hanahan he gets to work for a principal who is a former football coach so he will understand the work that needs to be done to create a successful program where as Timberland will be getting a new principal next year. He will have an easier time fundraising at Hanahan and I would imagine better facilities since it seems like every where in the county has better facilities than Timberland (excluding Cross).
