Failure to follow directions put in place by the SCHSL, School Districts, Mayors, and the Governor, has to be punished when those actions affect others who choose to abide by those directions. From the NFL down, make examples out of those who choose to put their personal preferences above the good of society.
Punished? Really?
I seriously doubt any of these kids or coaches who have tested positive have actually WANTED to get this virus. I'll even bet that more of these kids and coaches than you think are very concerned about having their season taken away or not being able to play games. I can assure you that any high school athlete is thinking about this ALL THE TIME. Most are holding their breath every week before Friday in anticipation that their game might be cancelled.

These kids aren't partying like college kids and disregarding protocol on purpose. It's a virus that affects humans.

Punishment? No, I don't think so. They have already been punished enough.

I agree with both of you. If you can prove that a coach, team or player or school intentionally violated published protocols and directions; it should be handled just like any other violation of SCHSL rules. However, that key word is intentionally and how to determine if something was an accident or an intentional violation of the rules.

This is just going to make it so much worse as most coach/AD will do anything he can now to hide anything that they can. I see this as being extremely dangerous to the players, coaches and their families.

When you fail to follow the guidelines for social distancing, wearing masks, not being together in large groups, that is intentional. When little Johnnie's mom or dad bring it home and infect Johnny, that is unintentional. After game parties is written all over this. I could be wrong, but given the guidance form Lord Marmalade, ignoring reality does not equate with unintentional disregard for public safety.

I can tell you Newberry's situation had nothing to do with parties. It is a small number of players, less than 5, asymptomatic, but since they were around other players, everybody sits 14 days.

I’m sorry but after game parties are not really a thing with a high school aged athlete. Maybe college, but not high school.

These kids play until 10:30 or 11 on Friday. Then they spend time in the locker room changing, putting gear away, talking to coaches. By the time they get out it’s 11:30 or 12. All they want is a shower, food and sleep. Have you ever even been a high school athlete? Or raised one?

They go to school all day, practice and study. There is nothing for them to do lately with everything closed down or limited. Honestly, playing football is what they love.

I think you must be mistaking college kids having parties instead of 16-18 year olds.

Understood. These things were bound to happen and that is why I said that Jerome and company should postpone the playoff until after Easter Break so that everyone gets to play their 7 games. This will get worse before it gets better. You just cannot have large groups of people without mass infections. Such is the nature of this virus.
