This is without a doubt an issue that needs to be handled sooner rather than later, because it is already out of hand. As previously stated, Private/Charter/Magnet Schools are heavy recruiters, that's how they survive. However, if you're oblivious to the fact that many public schools have been doing this as well throughout the years, then you are sadly mistaken. I'm all for school choice, and I'm not going down that road, because a lot of times that line is used as a scapegoat for athletics, not academics, yet at the end of the day if your kid wants to excel at both or has the capability to do so, then by all means do what's best for you and your situation. With all that being said, some great advice I was given was don't just present the problem, give a solution to it as well. So here is my attempt, which may or may not be suitable for everyone:
Currently, there are:
13 Class 1A schools that are Private, Charter, Magnet, or do not participate in all sports (i.e. football).
8 Class 2A schools that are Private, Charter, Magnet, or do not participate in all sports (i.e. football).
5 Class 3A schools that are Private, Charter, Magnet.
1 Class 4A school that is Charter.
This total comes to 27 Schools that need to be removed from the SCHSL.
I know where critics will go next. "You can't just kick them out".. etc. Why not? In my opinion, these schools would be better suited for and create better competition in the SCISA league. This doesn't solve the problem of public schools recruiting from one another, but it does level the playing field of Private, Charter, & Magnet Schools not competing in the same leagues of the teams (public schools) they recruit from. It's a win/win for both, in case you haven't noticed lately (or cared to), the same teams dominate year in and out with no competition in SCISA-Hammond, Hilton Head Christian, Thomas Heyward, etc.. It would be interesting to see the likes of Southside Christian, Gray Collegiate, Oceanside Collegiate, etc. have their own league to battle the Hammond School and see how things would be.

Anyway, just my input, hate it or not, opinions are like butt holes, we all have them.
Couldn’t find a meter, but here’s 4 bucks!
