Fck social distancing. I got my Dorman mask.

Love the Ducks comment. Didn't realize you guys were playing them.

I got to get tickets. Might message Flynn.
Read my attachment from The Gaffney Ledger .
Each game will require a ticket.
Dorman vs. Clover = 1 ticket
Ducks vs Indians = 1 ticket

So surprised this is the same coach that Byrnes just fired. Not sure if Byrnes has a deeper issue because that coach had it going on. Am really looking forward to this contest.
He made one crucial mistake at Byrnes; he tried to be "one of the guys" and not "The Coach". Coach Lane lost control of the team. He's really a good coach and a good man and most Byrnes folks wish him the best. I hope he learned from the experience and goes on to greater things.

One of the guys?

Was this all on him? Or were there external pressures for him to conform? Parents?

Sounds like maybe the Doc Davis scenario. Except Doc didn't try to be one of the boys.

Shame it didn't work out for Byrnes. I've heard some Byrnes fans who seemed a bit ambivalent about him and his departure. Never really sensed any undercurrents from the program. Except maybe a story here or there about a position on the team that didn't have the best player for it?

Would be interesting to know the story.

Just got back from a super interesting lunch. Another 4 hour affair. Some might remember a long post about my friend Jeff Ballew. Only ever made one post on PFT.

He passed from brain cancer. His son is now a videographer and we're teaming up to bring SCPreptalk to life on Youtube. The 6 hour meals will be filmed, your best stories told. At 12 this kid could climb in a plane at the Sptbg downtown airport and take off, fly around, stall it, recover, and then land it. He's only better now at 17. We'll make a film of what happens when you climb in a glider and are sling shot off the runway using a system designed for our airport that doesn't require a tow plane and he'll tell the story of how he learned to fly.

Expect amazing things from this guy. I'm not all that interesting but damn if I don't know a buttload of interesting people. Don't be surprised if cameras aren't at the Reservation recording the reunion of the old skeleton crew after too long of a hiatus. We might even pair off by politics and have a bottle rocket fight. I kid I kid.

Basically think of Joe Rogan but not confined to a studio.

Ok, I'm going to take a dive into that sunken hulk PFT and see what I can recover.

Peace out. See you guys in a week!

Kisses!

Oh, I think I have a real job again starting next week. Wish me luck. Related to my Eulogy I gave for my brother Bo. God works in mysterious ways.

The best I can do is relate it to this story...

There is a shop at work that has 4 co-workers. All of them are equal or close in seniority and neither of them is the boss. The boss goes on vacation and one of them now has to step in and be the boss. So when one of the four is put in the role of being the boss, he has to motivate the others to work hard to get the job done. So when he pushes the others, they laugh and joke. Then he gets upset and yells at the other three "no one is leaving until we get all this work done" and then the other three get all upset with him.

When you are in charge {head coach/boss/whatever} you have to be "in charge" and you can't just be one of the guys. When I was back in High School, me and Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble had to call all the coaches by their first name, "Coach". If I had called Coach Rivers anything other than COACH, I would have paid for it.

I never had any issues with Coach Lane other than the discipline just wasn't there; on and off the field. As I said before, I wish him all the best is all that he does going forward.

PLUS: Never forget, it is always hard to go home! Returning home always adds additional pressure in any situation. That is why few people in the ministry ever go to serve the church they grew up in. Many times, folks remember you as that little boy that used to wear those ugly pants, and never see you as a grown up doing a job.

Yes wonderfully ambiguous analogy.

I’ll think on it. Will sound biased but objectively based on the two Byrnes game I watched last season, the playoff game much more impressive, I really believe had Dorman played Clover for overtime, the inevitable outcome would have been Clover lighting Byrnes up in the third round. TG78 can comment on that or Newcat. I say that not because Byrnes wasnt a quality team last year...but Dorman played Clover like I’d never seen the Cavs play. It was Rocky II literally.

Not sure what happened to Dorman in the third round. We seemed in the trenches with you guys. Didnt the game end with us rushing for a 1st down to kill the clock?

Clover had a special year last year with a super accurate qb that transferred in from York for his senior year. The qb and Lane's son had a connection like few I've ever seen. Lane was virtually uncover-able because the qb (Carroll) could put it right where it needed to be every time

add 3 defensive starters from York and you had the makings of a really special season

if you saw Clover play, you know the impact these 4 players had

Coach Lane deserves the credit because he got the players and put it all together. The real test will be how he does now that they are gone

do they reload like Dorman (they have about the same number of students) or drop off. We will see

This is a great post.

NO BS. I wonder the same thing. As a Cavalier you learn to be worried about Gaffney's new horses....the coaches are benevolently staticly average year after year.

You worry about Byrnes horses and who ever will be able to match up to Bentley's run as coach.

Now we wonder about Clover. They were lightning in a bottle last year. I could've seen them winning everything if we hadn't matched them blow for blow and had the last possession. Lane just came off as incongruent, a this peg in a that hole. Then he is beknighted not maybe with a no-name squad but the less celebrated good team with a handful of superstars. Still, any coach would not have been able to take that and assemble it to be it's best version of itself. Will be interesting to see if they stay the same or drop off a step. I can't imagine Clover being better because the team I saw that night was as good as any team I've ever seen.

Excellent thread. SCPreptalk is getting better every year despite the chaos that surrounds it. PFT and Vic went away only to be replaced by COVID and Trump and SCPreptalk bowed up and got even better as Facebook went from rather meaningless to shear mayhem.

This board has passed every test every time a shoe was thrown at it. It really is a group of posters that are more or less being the best version of themselves. Thanks to Ruben, Ken, and Jack.

Onion Rings...awful screen name. Great post. Keep it up bro.

Peace,
