Rock Hill will be the team to beat in Region 3 5 A. Northwestern's O=line is way to small this year. And with their schedule, it will be a physical battle each week....

Rock Hill's defense is stacked....Rock Hill is an example of allowing a coach to build over time instead of cutting the cord when things seem to be going south.....Rock Hill has a solid/ stable Principal and AD who has given Coach Pittman the time and flexibility needed to rebuild the right way...... The Principal and AD (former NW AD BTW) understood the issues and did not pull the plug in years 1 and 2 unlike others.......I hope the same will hold true now at NW with Coach Wofford......Give him time and flexibility to hire the coaches he needs and make the changes he wants to make.....
Question. Have you been to Northwestern's workouts? You mention that they are "way too small". I just wasn't sure if you were attending workouts and had seen what they had or you were merely basing it on last year's roster. Not sure if you are aware but Northwestern's 9th grade team had an offensive line that was bigger than their varsity last season. Those guys, who helped lead an undefeated unit, are moving up to 10th grade and many may start this season. At the end of the day, they may not, but to say that offensive line is "way too small" (in June) is premature. In addition, schedule doesn't matter when it comes to region. They could lose every non-region game 50-0, but if they win their final four games, they are region champs. So, while they may get "beat-up" with their schedule, their win loss record in non-region has no impact on region finish.
But for arguments sake, lets say you are right and Northwestern's offensive line is "too small". Have you ever truly paid attention to Air-Raid teams? They almost never have a big offensive line. Instead they mostly employ lighter quicker guys to handle the blitzes. In the Air-Raid, its not about blocking for long amounts of time, instead its about stopping the blitz. The only way to stop an Air-Raid is immediate pressure, if your o-line can just "chip" those unblocked blitzers, it opens everything up. Remember Northwestern's 2015 offensive line only had one guy over 250 lbs. The remainder were around the 220 weight class with the left tackle being a wide receiver who moved over early in the season. He was 180 lbs!

SLICK'S PICKS & then my picks over here....
1. GREENWOOD <--This one is a toss up with T L Hanna, with the coach leaving, who knows and they lost the big man.
2. GAFFNEY <-- I think the Indians win and maybe in a tie breaker.
3. NORTHWESTERN <-- I agree with Rock Hill being the team to beat here
4. SUMTER <-- Unless they lost a lot more than I remember, this may be the team to beat in the Upper State Upper???
5. DUTCH FORK <-- Unless you've been gone for 7 years, you are going to agree with this one.
6. CONWAY <-- Maybe Carolina Forrest finally can be listed as a "favorite"
7. BERKELEY <-- Just to mess with Slicker, I'll go with Goose Creek, too.
8. SUMMERVILLE <-- I will be going with Fort Dorchester here.

To my new friend FootballFan in the Lowcountry...No, I have not been to their workouts. I did have lunch earlier with a certain former coach and 2 parents who have sons playing for NW (one plays on the OL). They simply shared their views with me regarding strengths, weaknesses and concerns. The OL was a major topic of discussion. I passed along what is a concern as it relates to depth and size as well as who they will play. I am very much aware that the non-region record has no bearing on the region finish etc.

I agree there are ways to try and overcome these issues with chip blocking and roll outs left and right. However, I simply think the schedule and lack of depth will take its toll at some point.

I still maintain Rock Hill will be the team to beat in Region 3 5A. Coach Pittman rebuilt the RH program starting 4 years ago with
8th and 9th graders who are now juniors and seniors. They have speed, size, depth and unity. It took time but they stayed the course. AND YES, I did attend their spring practice sessions on 2 occasions.

The wild card in this region is Clover. Coach Lane is in year 3 now and has brought new energy, enthusiasm and has more numbers to work with. His offense will be strong....He returns the QB (nephew of form York HC) and a very talented group of WR;s plus the OL is strong. I did hear earlier that a RB from Byrnes High is transferring in - I cannot confirm that. Maybe a Rebel poster can comment further........Key again will be their defense.....Their offense will put points on the board.....Can the defense rise up....

Fort Mill and Nation Ford will be hit with Catawba Ridge coming online....The talent pool is now cut 3 ways.......I also was told that 7 or 8 players from NAFO left to go to Legion....Just caught wind of that........

My picks for Region 3-5A......Rock Hill, Clover, NW, NAFO & Fort Mill.......

He knows better than to give the wave the region.they have a receiver and a rb back .we have the best defensive line in the area.most of our d will play college ball.we could score a little more but we will be fine.we have some speed .sub 4.4 .
Slick can keep hating.im not going to rag on the wave they know we know and you know.
