In a situation like Emerald, that has sorely underachieved, you dont promote from a losing staff. Yea, you mighy catch lightening in a bottle, but that program needs a new voice.

I'm with you on this one.Deputy wrote:In a situation like Emerald, that has sorely underachieved, you dont promote from a losing staff. Yea, you mighy catch lightening in a bottle, but that program needs a new voice.
It's great if the kids like Neal as a teacher and coach, but there won't be nearly as much buy-in if they retain a holdover and the majority of the staff...which I foresee happening. How can you expect results if not much changes?
Haven't been around that program much the past few years, but a lot of good men work there (they just aren't successful coaches). I can't see District 50 moving on from them as educators because it's too hard fill those spots in the summer.
Even if Neal gets the head job, I'd expect him to almost be forced to retain 90% of the current staff there and that's not really fair to him.

Not sure who are Coordinators. I THINK Sorrow is the DC. Hard to wholesale change staff. Got to have teaching spots.
Re: Emerald Vikings
And that is a problem that plagues football programs in some places. I know of one pretty bad program in the upstate. They change coaches, but none of the sorry staff that were on board could get coaching jobs anywhere else. So they just stayed on as teachers without coaching anything and the new head coach had precious few slots to hire new coaches. I understand the education first stance that applies here, but it becomes a problem when trying to turn over a losing culture in football.

Deputy, I agree. but it is what it is when you hire assistants you have to have teaching spots. As far as hiring from this staff, Neal has only been there 2 years where most have been there for a while with Coach Mac. I just hope they find someone good, IF McMahon leaves,

They need to clean clock across the whole board in football and basketball.

Officially eliminated from the playoffs tonight...
More of the same with the untimely penalties and 3 to 4 costly turnovers. These mistakes have not been fixed. This is bad coaching.
Heads will roll.

Hire Neal Monday. LOL. There are still good coaches on staff. They just need new direction. Some should go though, too.
