Well we were soundly defeated by a very good 4A Westside last night. They got us last year as well, though not this bad. It really wasn't much of a contest , honestly. Westside had talented QB, receivers, RBs, big line. All the credit to them, they were sharp. I don't in any way believe they are 48-13 better than us, but, clearly much better. Abbeville looked sluggish, sloppy, wore out quickly, tackled poorly, didn't cover a receiver all night. Bobbled snaps, low snaps, 0 passing game, did gain pretty good rushing yardage, but, no way we had any chance without some kind of passing threat. That's another story though. The team has had 3 tough ones in a row, it caught up with us last night. We did not play well. We will be fine in our class, but, much improvement needed. We will run the ball successfully on most 2A teams around, but, when it gets tough about 3rd round, we could use a little passing threat I believe. The thing that worries me most of all is our kicking game. It needs much improvement. Had a punt blocked for a TD last night. Kick-offs coverage and punt team need to get a whole lot better, this needs some serious attention, IMO. It's a process and this is a young team, will be fine, but, we are going to the 5th week and still really struggling in some areas. The kicking game is very important in football. We have time to improve, I'm sure we will. We will be a factor.

Y'all will be fine. Just remember most teams would love to be where y'all are at right now. Abbeville is just in one of those lulls where they have talent, but not the depth of talent they've had the past 10 years.*Topcat* wrote: ↑Sat Sep 09, 2023 12:08 pmWell we were soundly defeated by a very good 4A Westside last night. I doubt Kelly Bryant would have made that much of a difference in 2013/14 deep in the playoffs.
How many schools can say they have A, AA, and AAA state championships?

Made it to A Town last night for my Rams and really enjoyed the atmosphere of your stadium. Truly a legendary place for HS football.
Have to admit A Town folks are some of the most accommodating and friendly folks you will ever be around, really enjoyed the visit
Been many years since I had been to a game there
No way I am going to tell anyone in Abbeville how to coach but I do agree the passing game left a lot to be desired 16 (Norman I think ) is lighting quick and fun to watch. Did appear you big RB got very fatigued in 2nd half but his a big boy
I will have to agree with you on kicking game, in all honesty we just about blocked every punt but did not take correct angles , I called the block for TD before the snap. You could see that coming
Abbeville will be fine, if I am correct your only loss last was to WHS and y’all ran the table.
Do not care who you are but all those State Championships on the wall are very impressive
Good luck rest of the season.
