Re: Abbeville jamboree
Rebels have a lot of work to do but it will come. Only one practice in pads before the jamboree. i thought abbeville looked great (size and physicality).
Rebs go to Gilbert tonight, hopefully they take a big step forward.

It's too bad the Abbeville first teamers will only play one half, if that, on most Friday nights this fall. Running clock in 2nd half. That includes playoffs. Some people want to claim it won't be much different from the region we have played in the last couple years. Yes it will, plus the Class A playoffs will be vastly different than Class AA playoffs. As you can tell, I am deeply disappointed that our administration appealed and appealed to go down to Class A. Just my opinion but I think it's a big mistake, going to hurt the gate, we've already lost a game when Thornwell Charter dropped football. It would actually be a huge stretch to even call that a game, but, still money is lost without a replacement. Abbeville is going to be really good, would have been one of the favorites in AA, some potential epic match-ups. Now it is reduced to a couple of interesting pre-region games and maybe, maybe one decent game deep in playoffs. Next realignment we were likely headed to Class A with no other options. We should have rode it out. It may help some other sports a little, maybe, but I just don't see the positive in this equation. P.S. it seems the numbers at Abbeville High have gone down in part to students going to Dixie instead. I hope we will keep this in mind when Dixie comes to town this fall.
Re: Abbeville jamboree
Agreed. Abbeville can get sized up for state title rings in 1A right now. With all the private/charter schools moved up i don't see any challenges. Gates will be dismal which will have an adverse impact throughout the entire athletic program as Football funds a lot of things. 1A crowds are small, will be really small for Abbeville games since opponents will lose by 60.*Topcat* wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2024 11:35 pmIt's too bad the Abbeville first teamers will only play one half, if that, on most Friday nights this fall. With Clinton, Chester, FFC, ST, Saluda, BL, etc playoff time could have been extra special if Atown was in the mix also!
Re: Abbeville jamboree
Exactly. And I don't believe the football program was involved in the appeal at all. Administration. They may claim it was done with all sports in consideration, but, let's be real, I can count 1 basketball title, 1 wrestling title in our history. Could be another but not much. That's probably not going to change much either. Football has 12. It's a football school, football town, football is King. Sometimes people in charge make poor decisions. It's too bad the fan base couldn't appeal the poor decision. There is fun in winning, but, playing the likes of Calhoun Falls, 90 students, and winning is not going to be much fun. Sorry. Throw in Whitmire, WS, Dixie, and probably even worse in 1st several rounds of playoffs. UGH!!! I don't like being so blunt about it but it didn't have to go this way.TIM wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2024 9:52 amAgreed. Abbeville can get sized up for state title rings in 1A right now. Re: Abbeville jamboree
I've been saying for a while that football "regions" should be different from other sports. Heck, the way football is classified should be different. Abbeville will win the region, I wouldn't be shocked if the average margin is 60+ to 0. That's no fun for anybody.
