De Facto All Classifications State Championship

Post by DFOLDMAN »

…in the SC high school football capital- The city of Irmo. Irmo vs Dutch Fork.
Analysis is fairly easy… Brand probably accounts for 75% of Irmo’s offense and directly impacts the other 25%.
If Brand has a stellar game and DF makes key mistakes- Irmo wins. If DF effectively limits Brand and plays relatively mistake free ball, Foxes win.
Have to wait and see…

Should be a great game win, lose or draw and good prep for the Foxes for the 5A D1 playoffs. 5A D2 is going to be a wild one- may be the most fun to watch of all the playoffs. NW, Gaffney, WK, Irmo etc...fun.

All our junk talk aside, I got DF in this one. Defense for DF simply too good. Brand will get some of his but not enough

Dutch Fork 31
Irmo 21

I'll take the program that Newberry is undefeated against all time to beat the Yellow Jackets. :D

Irmo is going to jack slap Dutch fork like a red headed step child. The yellow jackets are to strong for them.

I like your loyalty to your program and your community. No argument against DF claim to elite football status. Calling Irmo the football capital and this the defectors state championship game is a bit of a stretch. There is a purple and gold team to your north that would have a little something to say about all that.

I am looking forward to a quality matchup. If Irmo wants to be considered a part of the conversation they have their shot now. Better take it while you can. AJ is great player, really good receiver too apparently; let’s we if they are a great TEAM. All three phases matter as does the ability to play with balance and space.

I don’t think they can hang with Dutch Fork. If they can score 21 that will be an accomplishment, however I have heard nothing about their defense. Let’s see how that goes in this matchup. Field position will be key.

The last 8 straight titles had to come through Irmo SC...11 out of the last 14 had to come through Irmo SC....I'm not understanding how my statement is not factually accurate. Might not be "sentimentally" accurate... for some, but this is the last 15 years I'm talking about- not titles before the advent of face masks and white cleats. Been almost a decade since NW has won a title? My long-term memory is not what it was.

Its difficult to call this the "DeFacto" All classifications state championship considering that Dutch Fork will not play Northwestern and Westside (current undefeated teams) or teams like Gaffney, South Pointe, etc.
Northwestern and Dutch Fork did match-up in the WRHI Football City USA KickOff, however, with Northwestern winning 15-14. While, yes, it was pre-season, I think its fair to say to anyone who witnessed it that both of those teams were trying extremely hard to win that game. Both squads played starters the entire contest. Who would win in a playoff or regular season game, who knows? But, based on that result, I don't think you can say who is better between those two squads. If forced to make a decision, wouldn't you have to go with the team that won?

As for the Irmo being the Football Capital. Yes, I will give you that Dutch Fork has been the premier team in 5A over the past decade. But, Irmo has just recently started to become competitive on a statewide level (just one state title in 1980). So, really its about Dutch Fork. So, why not say Abbeville is the football capital (8 state championships since 2010) they could surely make a claim.
Its tough to argue against Football City USA remaining the "Capital" of the state. As a CITY, it remains the have the highest percentage of NFL players, per capita, in the entire USA. In addition, since 2008, teams from Football City USA have won 10 state championships and have enjoyed 15 State championship appearances (including a game where two teams from the city played each other for the State Championship).

So, to the point of this post. Yes, Dutch Fork, for the last decade (along with Abbeville) has been the premier team in the state. But, as for the city of Irmo being the "capital" of football in this state. No, many cities can make that claim before Irmo (Rock Hill, Gaffney, Dillon, Spartanburg, just to name a few).

But, without a DOUBT that is the game of the week and quite possibly the year on Friday night! Should be an amazing one!

Hopefully, DF wins Friday and wins 5A D1, Irmo wins 5A D2, Gray wins 4A and Oceanside wins 3A and I will repost my statement...and thank you for the much-needed history lesson... forgot Abbeville. Their fans probably think they can beat the Foxes...good on them.
Again...just a game.... played by kids.... doesn't amount to much in the grand scheme of things, but we enjoy the entertainment.
