Out of Mojo

Post by bbrown1240 »

The Dutch Fork program is miles ahead of the Sumter football program right now. We only ran 29 offensive plays on the night and Ky'Jon Tyler was held without a catch. We used our last bit of magic at Summerville and it showed last night. It was a Sumter team that has been through battle after battle and was just tired. I'm not saying we looked defeated, but these players went from not making the playoffs last year to the state championship game the next and this team was not as built nor were they as prepared for this moment as Dutch Fork was. It was Dutch Fork's time to win and congratulations go to them. They have been playing at an elite level for the past 4-5 years and they deserve it.

Even though this game did not go the way Sumter fans wanted, the players and the fans have nothing to hold their heads down about. No one exepected this team to be among the last two standing. They exceeded everyone's expectations. This Sumter team and Coach Kennedy has set the standard for teams coming forward. We may lose 23 seniors including Ramero Rock, Cavozio Wells, Nate O'Connor, and Erick Wright, we return a load of playmakers next year including James Barnes, Xzavion Burson, and the electric Ky'Jon Tyler, who has already broken Stacy Robinson's (1985-1987) career receptions record and single season reception record and he should break Tyler Smith's (2007-2009) career touchdown record next season as they are currently tied at 27. We have a lot to be proud of and a lot to look forward to. As we transition from watching games at Freddie Solomon Field to the big house, let us support JoJo English and this Sumter basketball team who was cheated out of a state championship berth last season. And for the die hard football fans and the returning Sumter football players, we have 8 months to prepare to break this drought against Crestwood.

The rumor mill has Tiquan Coclough coming back to play CB next year. Also, there are plenty of athletes to step in next year on Defense. Raekwon Benbow will step in to be the big guy plugging the middle; Xzavion will probably replace Jalyn as the other CB; Zack Pierson has the line for the Mike LB spot; Capone Generette is one to watch for at DE.

As sad as it makes me to think about the Seniors leaving, I am truly excited to get the chance to see the next generation bloom. Under the tutelage of Coach Tomlin, these young men will be ready to compete very soon.

Nate is taking a week off, then it's singlet time. So, I will see some of you in the Wrestling forums. For the rest, see you next year and... GO GAMECOCKS!!!
