The Rematch Dutch Fork vs Spartanburg 5A Upper State

Post by SCFootballWatcher »

I believe a lot of people have completed the 5A Upper State bracket with a Dutch Fork selection, however I believe Spartanburg is more complete at this point of the season than they were in week 1.

I was at the game Week 1 and can say it was a little closer than the score showed. There was a lighting delay that occurred as Spartanburg was driving the ball inside the Dutch Fork 15. I do remember Spartanburg having a tough time slowing Offering down on 3rd downs or just when he would scramble out the pocket as he kept plays alive. If Spartanburg can contain that and the swing pass to 30 along with leaving the corners on islands against 17 as they did in the first game they should be able to keep it close. Spartanburg defense lead by Smith and Jones can do a lot of good things.

Thoughts?

I really like what the Vikings are doing right now when it comes to stretching the field, for me it all comes down to the running game, if Dutch Fork can stop the run like they did in the first game than the Silver Foxes will win comfortable. Vikings will need to play as close to a perfect game as they possibly can to even have a chance at winning.

Dutch Fork is a different animal come playoff time. It's gonna be a slug fest that's for sure.

Agreeing with any GRRRRRR folk is unsettling for me (ha), but I think you are right about the game. Vikings are going to have to run the ball well... more than they pass to get it done. It's asking a lot to put it on the shoulders of a 10th grader but that is how I see it as well.

DF defense seems to play the run and the pass equally as well, and SHS seems to be running the ball better now, so you have to go with your strength. DF has been passing the ball more this season, but the offense seems to be getting in the rhythm - 917 total
yards in the two playoff games and have rushed the ball 53 times for 532 yards, which is a bit of a switch from the way the season has been going.

At the end of the day, it's teenagers.... raised three boys and lord knows what they will do...haha. Anybody's guess. Have to wait and see what happens.

Yeah the Oceanside game was good...they have shown glimpses...sometimes it seems like they are just going through the motions, but that game was 48-0 at halftime. Probably one of their best halves of football this season.
