Scrimmage reports....

Post by Go Tigers »

With so many teams scrimmaging for the first time tonight and tomorrow....is there any reports out there? Just curious what everyone thinks of their team after seeing them in action for the first time.

All I will get will be second hand information... they move the scrimmage to 10 this morning... Supposed to be getting severe thunderstorms in the area this afternoon and early evening according to FOX21

The Wave beat O.W in Orangeburg this morning 41-14.
it was 28-0 at the half. O.W scored to open the 3rd quarter 28-7.
But the wave came back and scored and was up 35-7 going to the 4th.

SF hosted a 4-way scrimmage with Marlboro County, Manning and Westwood that featured a pair of offenses and defenses working against each other on both ends of the field. The teams were rotating off and on fairly frequently. I think that SF and Westwood had both their 1st and 2nd teams playing, at one point SF had an offense playing on both ends of the field.

The format didn't really lend itself to keeping score, but it was great to see the kids going against real opponents. I saw some things I liked, I saw some things that will prompt our coaches to make adjustments. ;)

Sumter and Irmo tied at 20. It was called at the half due to pending inclement weather. Punt team was awful. Punter can kick the ball a mile but can't handle the snap not to mention awful coverage when he got the kick off. But I would advise every team that plays Sumter...kick the ball out of bounds or pooch it during kickoffs. I'm not shy to say we have the two best kick returners in the state. Offense was ok. The got into rhythm on the third drive. James Barnes scored on a 15 yd QB keeper. Ky'Jon Tyler had touchdown receptions of about 40 and 60 yds. Botched the snap on the first extra point. Defense played ok too. Two of Irmo's touchdown drives started from our 5 yd line due to bad punt coverage. Linebackers and the line played decent. The secondary wasn't tested too much. We did have one interception. All in all it wasn't bad but lots of work to be done.

For Irmo, #6 is a horse playing running back. It appears that they will rely heavily on read option. Passing game was non-existent. I don't know if this was because they were testing our brand new defensive line against their run or if their passing game is that bad. Their kicker could not make an extra point to save his life. Defense was ok but had no answer for Ky'Jon Tyler. Lots of work to be done at Irmo.

Conway/Ashley Ridge scrimmage......Conway's OL and RB's looked solid, along with WR Bryan Edwards.....the rest looks like work in progress. Tigers used 4 different RB's....3 scored at least one TD each. Edwards had 2 TD receptions and a INT. on D. The DL looked good against the run. LB's looked smallish.....DB's had their up and downs.....literally fallen down on some plays, but did have a pick 6. Need to work hard on punt snaps!!! Over all not bad for first scrimmage.

Ashley Ridge had success when they went to their hurry up O. Big QB and RB....WR were athletic. Good size in the secondary also. Weak spots appeared to be OL and DL.

Final.......Conway 40 something - Ashley Ridge 20 something. Game played on practice field due to work being done at the stadium......therefore no scoreboard.
