Summerville 37 - Bluffton 21 FINAL

Post by GoBigGreen »

Well what an interesting game that was. But before I get to the game there is a story I have to pass along that I think you might enjoy. My buddy Cecil and I had planned on meeting NewCat prior to the game at a restaurant in Bluffton called Fat Patties. The plan was to meet Newcat around 5:30pm at the restaurant. I give Newcat a call to let him know we were going to arrive a few minutes early and he said he would meet us there shortly. Cecil and I arrive and head in to grab a seat. We waited around 20 minutes and my phone rings with the following conversation between Newcat and myself:

NC: "Hey, are you guys here yet"?
GBG: "Yeah, we have been sitting here waiting on you. Where are you"?
NC: "I am sitting at the bar".
GBG "No you are not because I am looking at the bar and I do not see you and no one is on their phone".
NC: "DUDE, I AM TELLING YOU I AM AT THE BAR".
GBG: "Man, where are you? I know you are messing with me and are somewhere just laughing your 'behind' off".
NC: "DUDE, JUST COME TO THE BAR".
GBG: " OK, I am standing right at the bar with people staring at me because I am now laughing because I know you are messing with me?.
NC: "Are you sure you are not at Captain Woodys"?
GBG: "I KNOW I AM AT FAT PATTIES. HECK WE HAVE ALREADY ORDERED".
NC: "Are you in Beaufort"?
After stomping back to our table and looking at the menu....
GBG: "Holy Crap, I am in Beaufort".

Following that statement was literally 15 minutes of me laughing so hard I was crying. I was laughing, my buddy Cecil was laughing, I hear NewCat and his friend laughing...I simply could not stop. I know people in that restaurant thought we were nuts but I simply could not help it. I thought back to a number of things that now made sense:

1) On Thursday I said "Fat Patties, Bluffton SC" into my GoogleMaps application on my cell phone to determine how long it would take to get there. It stated 2 hrs and 1 minute. On Friday I repeated the same thing but this time it stated 1 hr and 36 minutes. I thought it was due to less traffic on the roads on a Friday(yeah right) but it must be due to it picking up Beaufort instead of Bluffton. Dang Voice to Text.

2) As we got close, I was on the phone with NewCat who asked me where we were at. I started rattling off landmarks like gas stations, car dealerships, etc and he stated "Man, I have been away for a little while and things have really changed"  . Yes, they really changed a lot I guess especially when you are in the wrong city.

In the end, we finally did make it to Bluffton with 30 minutes to spare and got to see a pretty crazy game.

With a heavy fog rolling in, Summerville wins the opening toss and defers. On the kickoff we pull an onside kick and recovery. Summerville had to start #9 Jackson at QB due to injuries to both our 1st and 2nd string QBs. On short notice Jackson is chosen to fill in at QB and overall did a very good job. However, on the 1st possession, Summerville does nothing with the opportunity and has to punt to Bluffton. The Bobcats march right down the field and score on a 25 yard td pass. 7-0 Bobcats. Following another short possession by Summerville, the Bobcats get the ball back. On 3rd and 10 they connect on a 52 yard TD pass to push the lead to 14 - 0. Well Newcat sat the entire game on the visitors side with us and is doing all he can to control his little out bursts of excitement :D. But at the time his team was looking pretty good while we did not. On the KO however Summerville responded with an 80 yard return followed by a 20 yard run by Felder to make it 14-7 Bobcats. Following a 3 and out the Bobcats punt back to Summerville who march right back down the field with Felder punching it in to tie the ball game. Burnette had a circus catch on the drive that picked up about 25 yards. Summerville then intercepts the ball and returns it to the Bluffton 8 yard line. The Bobcat defense holds and Summerville settles for a 21 yard FG. We head to half up 17-14. Summerville then just seemed to wear out the Bluffton defense in the 2nd half and pull away for the 37-21 win.

If you ever get the chance to meet Newcat, do so. He is one of the nicest highschool sports fans you will ever meet. He really made the game even more fun than it already was. Well now on to the playoffs for Summerville. The 47 year long streak of making the playoffs continues. Yes, even at 4-7(2-2 in region) we are in the playoffs. Right now it is looking like we get to make a trip to Dutch Fork in two weeks. Summerville can REALLY use this week off to get healthy. I have no idea if Taylor or Bennett will be back for Summerville at QB. Will Jackson start again? That is something that will have a huge impact on the type of offense we can run. Just happy to have Summerville still in the conversation.....

The food was very good. They have an enormous selection of burgers to chose from. Let's just say I would go back.
