Nixon Field-Biggest Game Ever?

Post by ByrnesRebels05 »

Is this the biggest game in Nixon field history Friday night? I know the 82 State title was played at Nixon, but is this the biggest? All of those big rematches have been on the road or at state finals for Byrnes.

One of the biggest! Not sure if it will draw the crowd Bentley vs Miller  but this is just great for both communities.

I will say the Bell-Glades game because this game clearly help put Byrnes on the map!

There is an aura about the game in my gut as well. I'm sure Cavaliers all over the county are feeling it as well. There's two monkeys on two backs here. Only one will be gotten rid of.

Byrnes has lost in the 3rd round 3 years straight up to this point. The Cavs haven't beaten Byrnes in Varsity football on the field since the regular season game in 2010. As Dave pointed out already, Dorman's performance last Friday against the #1 seed was nothing short of brilliant. And it probably contributes a certain swagger and determination that district 6 fans might be experiencing this week. I know I'm looking forward to finding out if the Cavs can put together another outing like that against the Rebels. As I said in another post I think the Rebels would have easily handled Dutch Fork as well.

I can bet that every fan and player of each team is a believer this week and expects their program to advance come this Friday night. I can honestly see either team winning this contest but Dorman is definitely a big underdog given the lopsided score between these two teams weeks ago. I for one expect our coach to have the team better prepared and focused the second time around.

I should have clarified and said playoff game. I agree the Glades and Pahokee game took Byrnes to new heights, but this is war with our neighbors.

Based on the lack of support at Nixon Field this season, it is hard to see this one drawing a record crowd.

The Gaffney game was only 3/4 full at best 2 weeks ago. I remember people lining up at 5PM for the gates to open back in the day.

Throw in 35 to 40 degree weather 3 weekends before Christmas and it will not be a great crowd.

I agree, but watch it if Byrnes wins this week. All of those fans will come from every where for next week for state.

Sounds like the Atlanta Braves fans of the late 90s, early 2000s. Wouldn't have pegged Byrnes fans for that behavior

Everyone has those fans. If dorman wins Friday, the same thing will happen.

I have seen many great home games at Nixon. I think Pahokee was our biggest. It was the first ESPN game, that I remember, and it was the first against a Florida opponent, which at the time was ranked. It was on a Saturday afternoon, and it was hot as all get out. Was a great win. Really big crowd.

I don't know if it will be the biggest game ever, but I'm off on Friday, I've made hotel reservations and I will be there. 8-)

I plan on sitting on the vistor's side with DeCav & Company, and the normal Byrnes fans that sit on the wrong side.
