Valley 0 Sumter 38

Post by bbrown1240 »

No one expected a shutout, but the Gamecocks exacted revenge for last year’s loss in a rude way. Dinkins-McCall returned the opening kickoff 97 yards to the zone and Sumter didn’t look back. SV has two touchdowns called back on their second drive for holding and wound up missing a field goal. That’s as close as they would get to scoring. Another trip to the red zone for SV ended with an interception. Valley had 117 yards of total offense. Akele Pauling ended Sumter’s first offensive possession. With Valley’s talented defensive backfield, out went the passing game and in comes good ol’ Sumter football. Sumter dominated in their run game, running for over 300 yards.

Interesting fact about Irmo....Reggie Kennedy is a former Sumter coach and their QB John Ragin is a former Sumter player.

Phil Kornblut’s partner on his radio show stated that Sumter may be one of the few teams that could put up a fight with Dutch Fork. I’m not ready to speak on that yet as now it’s official that we will be in the upper state bracket and have to go through the likes of Byrnes, Gaffney, Dorman, and TL Hanna. After last nights win, I believe if we play well, the possibility of a Knotts vs Barnes matchup is there, and I think others are starting to believe that possibility is there as well.
