Congrats to Coach Gutshall on a marvelous career. Not the most flashy or outspoken guy around, but he does a good steady job of running a consistent winning program. I fear the day Dorman loses this man.

That's pretty impressive to win 400 games in one of the toughest regions in the state and if you look back over his career at Dorman he has had to play some very good teams over his tenure

The guy is like the North Star. Ole Faithful. Steady as she goes. Glad to watch his achievements unfold. Dorman has always been (in my time of observing) an under the radar threat. They don't make much noise, they just put their heads down and dig in.

I would never try to put down coach Gutshall, but he has always had the best facilities in the state, and the most students in his attendance zone in the state. Then add in some key "recruits" over the years, and you have an outstanding program. I have never seen a Dorman team act as if they were out of a game. They play hard until the last whistle blows. That is my take on coach Gutshall. He gets the absolute best out of his players. When those guys put on that jersey, they act like, and play like, winners. Then add in his temperament and you have a coach that knows how to communicate with his players. He wins with dignity, and he loses the same way. One of, if not, the best coach in the state. He hasn't used his position to manipulate his kids into advantages in college, or use it as a resume to land cushy jobs worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. I say good on him for putting his program and his players above his personal wealth. Others SHOULD have followed his lead. Definitely not a pimp daddy.

Great post Penguin. Coach Gutshall truly loves Dorman High School, his job as Dorman’s football coach, and the kids he coaches. He is doing what he is truly meant to do, and it definitely seems he wouldn’t have it any other way. And neither would Dorman High School.
