DILLON, S.C. — Jackie Hayes isn’t much for moral victories, but the Dillon High School football coach didn’t sound too disappointed following his team’s loss to Mallard Creek on Friday.
The Wildcats stood toe-to-toe with the Mavericks, a nationally-ranked 4A power from North Carolina, until late in the fourth quarter. <snip>
“We were able to run the football when we needed too,” Mallard Creek coach Mike Palmieri said. “That’s how you win state championships. That was our strategy all the way to wear them down, because we knew they had kids playing both ways.”
