2021 State Championships
2021 State Championships
I am not a fan of this new plan. They didn’t announce what the venues will be for these games I guess they’re still trying to decide.

Re: 2021 State Championships
No doubt the geniuses at the SCHSL at work again. I guess the days of them cramming as many games as they can in WB are over. I always enjoyed seeing the 3A, 4A, and 5A games on the same day. Without a personal connection, I wouldn't go just for one game

680 - STAGS GAMES AND COUNTING
Re: 2021 State Championships
Who cares if they make money? It isn't like the SC educational system, and the SCHSL itself doesn't find ways to waste money hand over foot. Part of the aura of playing in a state championship game was playing in the big stadium in Columbia. It just doesn't seem quite as important playing at Benedict or some larger high school stadium. And at WB the crowds were easily handled from one game to the next.

The 4A game on Thursday is about the stupidest thing on here. This ain't the damn JV!
Need to just bring back the old weekend of champions. 4A game on friday night. The rest on saturday. SAME VENUE IN THE MOST CENTRAL LOCATION IN THE STATE. Simple formula. Might as well just have one game a night Mon-Friday if there going to do bs like this.

2A 2PM on Friday.
Who will be able to attend that? Parents will have to take a day off work, students will have to miss school. Is this a joke?

Re: 2021 State Championships
The number 1 reason given by the SCHSL is time constraints due to Civid-19 and the time necessary to clean and disinfect locker rooms, showers, and other "common" facilities utilized by several teams in the course of the event.
I do not like the new format, I would rather see multiple locations used and have all games played on a single day. Perhaps we could return to the days of Championship games being played on the campus of the higher seeded team. That would make all games have a significant importance.
One other thing that all here have negated to post, is that the SCHSL proposal calls for a "rotational" order of games by Class in seceding years. In other words, the games and days would rotate on a yearly basis so that all Classes would have the chance to play at all 5 of the posted game times and the 3 posted days.
While I do not like this proposal, I do applaud the SCHSL for taking some action to ensure safety for students athletes, coaches, staff members, and fans. Safety should always be the driving force, whether some people want it, or not. I know a story about a thirsty horse, a trough of water, some applied force, and a refusal to drink.
