A little Gwood talk on goals and expectations for 2021

Post by GwoodEagle2k1 »

Alright Eagle fans! It's almost that wonderful time of the year. I'll get straight to it.

*DISCLAIMER (These are just my personal opinions).*

2020 was a strange year for all teams especially the teams with new head coaches. Chris Liner gets the job at Greenwood and some fans were excited and some were skeptical. I think Liner has won over the crowd. Definitely has won me over for what it's worth. Liner came into a Greenwood program that quite frankly had fell way below standard. In only 1 year Liner was able to bring back the competitive fire needed to get the program back up to standard. Not there yet but we're on our way. 2020 ended up with a double overtime loss to South Pointe in the 1st round of the playoffs. One of only 3 losses on the year. EVERY LOSS was because of multiple turnovers but even then we were in all the games lost until the very end when the clock ran out. A loss is a loss but we weren't blown out once. Not one time like we were with the previous coach. Overall I'd give Liner a B+ in his 1st year. I would have given him an A if we would have won the South Pointe game and gotten out of the 1st round. Overall we are competitive in games again and that's a BIG WIN for Greenwood.

2021 will present quite the challenge for Liner and crew.

at Hillcrest - Good 1st game for Greenwood. Rams aren't a pushover by any means but very much beatable early in the year.

Emerald- Cross town rivalry. Still haven't lost to the Vikings in varsity football. With Emerald still in rebuild mode and Greenwood trending upward, I can't imagine we lose this one. It will happen one year but not this one.

at Catawba Ridge- This will be tough. CR returns most of what they had last year. We can beat CR but Gwood will have to bring their A game. Anything less will be a loss in this one.

at North Augusta- Another tough one. This will be an absolute dog fight. This isn't the same NA were are used to. That new coach they got from Georgia last year will have NA well prepared. (A) game will be required to win this one.

Dutch Fork- Not much to say about this one other than Greenwood just needs to buckle the chin strap and GET AFTER IT. DF is the king of the hill and will remain that until they are beaten. We all know how the predictions will go. Greenwood WILL NOT be intimidated by anyone. We just need to show them WHO WE ARE. Win or lose.

Laurens- Fully expect to win this one. Had multiple turnovers last year and still won 35-7.

at Eastside- Another one I expect Gwood to win.

Greer- We owe them. Greer always has an excellent football team and I expect them to be the same this year. They got us last year due to multiple turnovers including a fumble on the goal line and a TD called back on a very questionable holding call. Time for some payback. Really excited about this one.

Greenville- I'm sure they want a piece of us after the beat down we gave them last year at their place. They only lost that 1 game to us and it kept them out the playoffs. Obviously it was music to my ears but I know they were crushed and want revenge. Gwood needs to be ready.

at Boiling Springs- Don't know what BS has this year but I expect them to be good and competitive. They beat us last year 27-24 in another one of our multiple turnover games.

2K1's conclusion- If Gwood can eliminate the turnovers we'll win the majority of our games and make a playoff run. I'm really excited about the players coming up from JV. A JV team that went undefeated last year.

Any posters with an opinion on this is welcome to jump in. GOOOOO EAGLES!!! 2k1 oUt

I hate it but from what I hear about NA this year it will be over at halftime. Lot of problems. Greenwood should win easily.

That's a tough schedule, but am sure G'Wood is up the challenge. Best of luck

Tough schedule is needed to get ready for region play. Just need to take one at a time. If we do lose a couple I think it will make us better in the end. Would like to win em all but realistically we are playing quite a few team capable of beating us.

Ehhh, already seen you guys on multiple occasions. We actually played ya'll awhile back when we had the previous coach before Liner. Yall had that really good running back Colburn. Also saw you guys the past couple years at state. Impressive what yall have done since the last time we played you. Played you in 14 and 15. We took a butt whoopin in 14. Somehow managed to beat you in 15 with our previous coach. Not sure how yall managed to lose that one. Greenwood only won like 4 games that year. If that.
