Hillcrest at Mauldin Not much known outside of the immediate area, but these two do NOT like each other at all. Just like Dorman-Spartanburg, close rivals and a win over your neighbor is always good. I think the Mavericks are playing much better at this point of the season and I'd give the edge to the home team. After what I've seen this far in the season, Mauldin looks like the #2 team in Region One... but take care of the Rams, and next week, they could stake a claim for the #1 spot.
Woodmont at T L Hanna Before Friday night, I had Woodmont as the most likely #2 seed in Region One; but I'm selling on Woodmont. I expect T L Hanna to open Region Play with a BIG WIN Friday Night. I don't see T L Hanna having any trouble staying focused this week and not looking ahead to Mauldin next week at home when the Mavs bring that highly touted "D" to Anderson.
Riverside at Dorman OK, back on August 20th….Who had Riverside as the undefeated and higher ranked team coming in to this match up? If you say you did, you are either a time traveler from the future or you telling a big ole fib! But here we are with the Warriors undefeated and Dorman with not one, but 2 losses. Now after all that, if you think I'm taking Riverside, NOT A CHANCE! Look into that undefeated record and it gets very cloudy. Lot of really bad teams on that schedule for the Warriors while Dorman has looked much better since that season opening "what the heck happened" game against Clover. I'm thinking the Warriors come back to the reality of Region II AAAAA on Friday Night.
Spartanburg at James F Byrnes Probably the game that will determine the Region II Runner Up in the minds of many folks. The Rebels coming off a BYE WEEK that was much needed to get some key players healthy (seven or eight sets of crutches, knee braces, and walking boots) and get some work on special teams and defense. The Vikings are coming off a trip to Dutch Fork and will need to put that trip behind them and get focused on the Rebels and Region II play. I'm looking for a game that will feature a lot of scoring based on what I've seen so far this season. It may come down to the last team to have the ball.
Gaffney at Boiling Springs Gaffney had all they could handle from Gray and learned first hand that those "little private" schools are not like a BYE WEEK. We all know that the Bulldogs have not looked good this season and this one could get real ugly at Boiling Springs Friday Night. I think the Indians score often and in multiple ways.

Cant sleep on Dorman tbey have a solid team.
Everytime they lose to us seems like they get discounted a bit because they lost to a lowerstate team.
Which is a bit offensive because in reality we stack up very well against any team.
Dorman will be a force.

Re: Comments about some Upper State 5A Games
Riverside......more about who they have played than anything. Let's see, to date they have played Travelers Rest, Berea, Eastside, Southside, JL Mann, and Blue Ridge. And have another matchup with maybe the worst of them all in Wade Hampton. So basically Riverside has one the tallest midget contest against the inept of Greenville County. I have seen youth teams that could beat some of the above mentioned teams. It is a cute story, but Riverside can't threaten anyone with a pulse.
Re: Comments about some Upper State 5A Games
I think Byrnes vs Spartanburg will be the most entertaining. Saw a good deal of film on the DF vs Byrnes game and got to go see the DF vs Spartanburg game. I think this will come down to QB/WRs vs QB/WRs and if either can run the ball...and how their defenses respond. DF was shaky at first against Byrnes coming off losing Jack, but played well from the second quarter on. DF frustrated the Spartanburg QB and shut them down. Was 42-0 in the third, and DF took the foot off the gas. The refs were from the 864 apparently....god knows how many penalties DF had.
I do think Dorman exposes the paper tiger from Riverside. They may thump Riverside soundly- posers. Hillcrest vs Mauldin will be interesting. Gut tells me Hillcrest, but we shall see. Hanna and Gaffney both roll.
Fear The Fox....Fixed On Six....for Jack #60 and Gage #4

Re: Comments about some Upper State 5A Games
Please be entertaining! Last two have been extremely difficult to watch.

I just want to see:
- a few players who have been out, back on the field
- some defense
- NO bad mistakes on Special Teams
If we can do that, I think we can pull off a win!
Yeah, that seems to be the general idea, like I said, look deeper and that undefeated record doesn't look quite as impressive; although, I could see them playing for #3 Seed maybe!
I'm thinking that strong "D" from Mauldin is the difference.
BIG

Re: Comments about some Upper State 5A Games
The Spartanburg QB is good, but the DF defense had a scheme that frustrated him, and when it was 42-0 at the end of the 3rd, the Spartanburg coaches pulled him out of the game. Byrnes QB is solid. Not sure about this one. Close game, I suspect.

Re: Comments about some Upper State 5A Games
The Spartanburg QB was a Byrnes as a Freshman, Greer as a Sophomore and Spartanburg for Junior and Senior years.
The things that have kept Byrnes from looking good this year are special teams and defense. We haven't stopped anyone all year for the most part. We played the final three quarters at Greer, but haven't seen anything that resembled a defense since then. For this to be a good game, that has to change. We should see a few folks back from injury hopefully, and if that happens, I would expect a Byrnes win. That defense doesn't get back together on the field, and then it could be a long night.
I'm going to be looking at the sidelines during warm ups to see how many sets of crutches and knee braces I see.....

The anointing of Mauldin has been postponed due to the fact that they got rammed! Hillcrest decided that they would show up and show up big... 41-24 big.

T L Hanna continue to roll toward the playoffs and the Home Field Advantage means the "Road To Columbia" would pass through Anderson. I can see them rolling along undefeated for the regular season.

The Warriors played tough for a quarter then the reality of the 6-0 season came to light. Playing Dorman at Roebuck is not comparable to Berea, TR, Eastside, J L Mann.

Just as I said, it came down to the last team to have the ball as the Vikings win on a FG as time expired. The Rebels Special Teams continue to be very much less than special. Two times in a season the punter mishandles the snap in the End Zone and rather than just take the safety, he runs out to the 3 or 4 yard line to a swarm of defenders and it ends up being an easy TD for the other team. Once, that's on the kicker. Twice, that's on the coaching staff! Defense for both teams is not what you'd expect to see at a game like this. Penalties, well I would be surprised if the Zebras didn't have more yards than the Vikings or the Rebels.
The Indians had it on cruise control shortly after the opening kickoff. Never a doubt in this contest. Indians have a non-Region game with Dorman, but other than pride that game counts for nothing, and nothing in the Region should come close to matching the talent of the Indians.
