strong hire for B-L
Re: Gene Cathcart taking the Batesburg-Leesville football gig
This move feels strange to me. Jefferson is doing well and Cathcart resigns and goes to a 2A school in South Carolina? Now today it's announced that the Jefferson DC is leaving to take a HC job at Hart? This one actually was probably a move up. I'm not saying anything is wrong with Cathcart's move. It just threw me amiss.

eagle93, we are confused as well. Obviously we think our job is an elite job but leaving Jefferson, especially leaving Jefferson while being so successful is a head scratcher. I am just going to assume that he wants to get back in the area and wants to come somewhere that traditionally has athletic talent to work with. There could also be the factor of the years of service for retirement. I think because of his years in Georgia, he is a few years short of what he needs. I haven't asked around much but I am assuming he will not be in the AD role either.
That being said, I am very excited over the hire. I am super curious about him creating a staff. I know at Greenwood he seemed to run a Shotgun Spread attack but at Jefferson he ran what looks to be a similar offense to what our former coach Jerry Brown ran. This worked exceptionally well for us and turned the program around quickly under Coach Brown.
This hire changes everything for us. Having a Hall of Fame worthy coach doesn't always mean success but this is just what we needed. We have been lucky to have so much success over the years but I must admit that the moral and support has dropped sharply lately. I fully expect The Pit to be packed that first game. Welcome Coach Cathcart!

CITYSLICKER, I am sure you know more than me on the Coach Brown situation and what caused him to leave so quickly. I will say that is the first I heard on the subjects of money and staffing and the school board and administrations have changed since then. I find it hard to believe they would cut his money but if that was the case I can understand that being a huge issue. Coach Brown is an elite football coach. Outside of that he rubbed a lot of the people the wrong way in B-L. Everyone has quirks and I am sure you are aware of some of his and I'll leave it at that. Can't argue with his results anywhere he has been though. Trying to be as nice as I can and reply to you. B-L needs to be defended on this one.

Mentioning Greenwood, that makes it even more strange. He was offered the Greenwood job and they couldn't come to terms. It's a 6 figure job! I'm glad they hired Liner as he so far is doing a good job and is definitely dedicated to the Greenwood program and community, but that makes this move even more strange. One thing for sure, he can coach and you're getting a good one from that standpoint. You'll be back in championship form in no time. Oh, and he actually ran triple option at Greenwood which Liner has taken us back to.BL Panther wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 10:07 ameagle93, we are confused as well. MY LAST THOUGHTS ALSO TO YOU, THERE WAS A REASON FOR HIM LEAVING SO QUICKLY AND YES HE HAS SOME ISSUES IN HIS APPROACH TO FANS AND PLAYERS, HE IS FIGHTING IN YEAR 2 BUT HE WILL CHANGE THE ATTITUDE OF YEAR ONE ON BOTH AREAS, YOU KNOW A WINNING YEAR WILL HEAL ALL PROBLEMS, COVID IS ALWAYS HANGING AROUND TO RUIN ANOTHER YEAR FOR SURE, GOOD LUCK ON THE NEW COACH, AS ALWAYS THIS IS MY OPINION AS I SEE IT.

Anybody else see his press conference where he took shots at Gray and their excellent signing class? Shots fired already! I love it, I hope he gets B-L back to championship levels. Or at least that he does weekly press conferences like that.

He has won at every school he's been at. This will be no different. He has proven he can coach. I honestly didn't feel like shots were taken at Gray. They do sign an excellent class. They recruit and they are the 2A champion. When you're on top people come for you.bigdog2003 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 6:17 pmAnybody else see his press conference where he took shots at Gray and their excellent signing class?
