What should Greenwood fans realistically expect from the Eagles this year?

Well 93 like you said in a previous post, Liner is definitely trying to do everything he can to get things turned around. He knows you have to win at Greenwood. I'm not going to get excited until I get to see exactly what we have this upcoming season but I like the fact that Liner is taking initiative. Seems like he's making some needed changes.eagle93 wrote: ↑Sun May 07, 2023 8:50 pmIt has nothing to do with what fans want necessarily. Fans just want to win period. I'm getting ready to turn 50 and the one thing I remember hearing mostly about Greenwood was speed on both sides of the ball and a tough, dominating defense. I remember hearing kids speak of Gwood players by number only instead of their names. You could sense the fear in them. No one fears them now. I saw Edwards play in his heyday and over the years coaching rec leagues Gwood kids were always really good and tough. Where'd the toughness go? Emerald isn't consistently good. Where'd the kids go?
I'm telling you if you want to bring back the dominance of the "G" get in the ear of the Clinton HC. If he doesn't get one in the next year or two in AAA throw everything you've got at him. He's a stud and everything about him says Winner. I get to see and speak with a lot of coaches and most of them aren't really as good as they get credit for but that guy is the real deal. He proved himself at Lamar and he's come really close at Clinton. Sky is the limit for Coach Fountain.

I'm happy with Coach Liner. While I'm not happy with last year's results I think we have our guy. People need to understand it takes time to build something special. Liner is making a bunch of changes. I do agree with you that Coach Fountain is an exceptional football coach. They probably gave them the keys to the city in Clinton and if he ever wanted to get a higher paying job I'm sure he would be able to land one.HoodRoad wrote: ↑Mon May 08, 2023 2:32 pmI'm getting ready to turn 50 and the one thing I remember hearing mostly about Greenwood was speed on both sides of the ball and a tough, dominating defense. I can't give any names but we have three really good quarterbacks to choose from this upcoming season. Come to the Spring game this Thursday at 7pm and check them out. They not going to show too much but enough to get some good work in.

Emerald is consistently talented and if you put a handful of their best players over at Greenwood, you'd have a heck of a football program.
There's an all-star team walking the hallways in both schools but those potential athletes would rather be on the streets.
The problem at both programs is that their coaching staffs can't connect with that kind of prospective student-athlete. DuBose finally hired a former EHS player that may be able to connect. It's the best move he's made since being at Emerald. We'll see if that makes a difference.

Liner has a good plan coming to reach out to those type of kids in the school and community. You will see change coming real soon.

Not a Greenwood fan but want to point on something, You guys need to realize Armantti Edwards, Josh Norman, Kelcy Qualres, and the other hundreds of legends aren’t walking through the school, does Gwood have a lot of talent? Heck yeah, but it’s different today, I swear the talent across the board just keeps going down and down. Look at Byrnes, those fans are pissed they’re not winning titles, which is good, but Marcus Lattimore ain’t coming back. You may not want to accept and I don’t blame if you do but the 2023 Greenwood eagles ceiling might not be as high as the 2006 Greenwood eagles. don’t know Liner real well but I can tell u this unlike a lot of coaches in this state he won’t sacrifice doing the right thing to win an extra ball game, he olway gon do the right thing, and not be cheating like sum schoolseagle93 wrote: ↑Sun May 07, 2023 8:50 pmIt has nothing to do with what fans want necessarily.
