For the record, look back three weeks ago and you will see a post where I said that very thing after the Gaffney game. We are NOT a disciplined team on and even off the field. I have personally seen things that make me very disappointed in some players and coaches on and off the field. Since 2000, I've missed two playoff games... TWO. One was due to a church conflict which took every bit of a tenth of a second to decide and one was last year. I've missed more games this season already, than in the previous 14 years. I'm very discouraged.

Spartanburg clearly played a better game and is an extremely talented team. Now, the fact that Chris Miller (former Byrnes Coach) and Coach Scott (former Byrnes Coach) and Austin Scott (former Byrnes QB) are at Spartanburg have nothing to do with the Vikings success... oh wait, I'm sure it does have something to do with it. If that had happened at Byrnes the board would be nothing but "BYRNES RECRUITING CLASS" comments. I'm extremely happy for Chris and the Scotts. I wish them nothing but success...but Viking fans are basking in glory and enjoying their success and overlooking the fact much of that success came by the way of Duncan. So of course there are going to be some feelings of resentment from some Rebel fans as it was a tremendous loss to our school and our team and our fans, when those folks moved to East Spartanburg (at least it wasn't to Gaffney }

Again, and I can't emphasize this enough, personally, I have no resentment myself for the Scotts or Coach Miller for leaving... a man has to do what he thinks is best for him and his family and I congratulate them for their success. But think it through and you can understand that circumstances being what they are... there is going to be some resentment on the part of some of the Rebel Faithful. They supported those guys for years and now they are "THE ENEMY"!

74, I understand the Byrnes faithful being a little bit bitter because the Scotts and Miller are having a better year at SHS than Byrnes. And you probably do wish them well, as long as they are not besting the Rebels. But lets clear up a few things. 1. Chris Miller does not belong to Byrnes. He was at Spartanburg and Broome before coming to Byrnes. 2. Byrnes lost the Scotts because D5 let Bobby Bentley run amuck. Bobby left Byrnes for PC and Miller was promoted, but then Byrnes brought Bentley back to be AD and OC which nullified Miller as head coach. Austin Scott should have been Byrnes' starting QB for the last 3 years but there was another Bentley in the way. And he wasn't as good as Scott but was going to be the starter anyway. That's why the Scotts left. Then Bentley left Byrnes hanging by going to Auburn. 3. A lot of the talent that Byrnes has now is a benefit of the BMW effect (parents moving from downtown to the suburbs). BMW hired thousands of new employees from January 1999 thru December 2001. This was for the E-53 ramp-up (BMW language, I worked there so I know what I am speaking about). It is not a coincidence that Byrnes' success started around 2002, as did Dorman and Boiling Springs. Although Dorman and BS started a little earlier and for different reasons.
I noticed that over the years, Byrnes fans became bad winners. They became quick to brag on the last 14 meetings vs SHS where their record was 14-0 but forget that the 20 prior to those the record was 17-3 SHS which included some streaks too. So do you not think the Vikings fans deserve to bask in the glory? Let them bask, they deserve it!! The Byrnes contingent should applaud them this year and try again next time instead of try to take their joy. And as far as success coming by way of Duncan....a lot of Duncan success comes by way of Spartanburg. I am not saying that all of it does, but a SIGNIFICANT amount does.

Keep cheering for the Scotts and Miller, the are not the enemy. They just took advantage of a better opportunity.

Please show us any plays that Miller brought from Davis or his tenure at Broome. He brought a carbon copy of Byrnes program. And to say Scott is better or Bentley is better is just an assumption. You have nothing for proof.

So you are saying that there is proof that Bentley designed the offense that Byrnes, SHS, Woodruff, Hillcrest, Dorman, Boiling Springs, Mauldin, Greenville, Northwestern, etc. runs? If so, lets see it. I am sure that Bentley is playing or played somewhere. Put his numbers up against Scott's. It really does not matter who designed an offense. What matters is what play is called in whatever situation it is put in by the defense, how well it is executed and they skill set of those executing it.

2. Scott was the OC one year at Byrnes, the year after Bentley went to PC. Byrnes won state that year despite his play calling. Thanks to a man named Marcus Lattimore. Hillcrest, dorman, Mauldin and BS run a different type of spread, it's more run oriented, similar to greer. Northwestern is completely deferent than anyone else. However, Greenville, Woodruff, and SHS run pretty the same O as Byrnes because all the offensive coaches at these schools ether coached under or played for Bentley. So yes Bentleys offense has changed football in the upstate.

Coach Lane stood the O Line up at film Sunday. He played the sacks to the ENITRE team. Hmm was that sack on you 77, 71, 58, 62, 51 with a resounding no out of 12 SACKS 5 were given up by the O Line really 4 the kid lost his footing in the mud. Lane said he was tired of everyone bashing the Offensive Line and if he had to make it public he would. You can sit back in a pocket for that long and not expect something. Are RB'S ran the ball right up the middle all night long gashing the Vikings Mighty Defense. Receivers have got to get open and other have to field their blocks. The play calling could have been a ton better. Minus the sack yardage our running game would have had a ton of positive yardage. I've watched the film atleast 9 times plus the Touchdown ruled as a fumble maybe over a 100 times he was IN. This wasn't Byrnes Football by no means,, discipline needs to be seen to, but this season isn't over. I hope and pray other teams do think this is the way the Rebels come out the rest of the remaining games because the joke will be on them. BTW it's about time this board got lit up. Proud to be over here.

1. Its still a spread offense, it is just the route combos and those change to attack the opponents weaknesses.
2. I can think of 3 years that Byrnes' spread offense was more run oriented (Marcus Lattimore years).
3. Dave Gutshall was the first to run the spread offense in this area, not Bentley.

I suffered through most of the 40 years prior to that run and often said that Spartanburg used to field the best teams in this area for many years (I saw Fuller, Carnie Norris, Tolleson, and others run over folks at will), and I've said plenty of times that there was not a coach I respected more than Doc Davis....}


So do you not think the Vikings fans deserve to bask in the glory? Let them bask, they deserve it!! the 12 sacks were the fault of the Byrnes rebels football team as this is a team sport, not the O-line, backs, or receivers. The offense could do nothing with the Vikings' defense. As far as the rushing total being decreased by the sacks, SHS rushed for 139 yds vs. 32 yds for the Rebels. So I do not understand where the statement "Are RB'S ran the ball right up the middle all night long gashing the Vikings Mighty Defense" comes from? Sounds like the rebs are proud of that 32 yards. Also, just curious as to where you are watching this game film from? Lets say that it was a TD and SHS' was a TD on the early whistle 4th down. That makes the score 24-14. So the Rebels still needed a lot of help in a short time.

We have a qb that all a long has wanted to be a wr!in doing this we have lost 2 qbs both have transferred out because they were going to be back- ups.wouldn't it had been Best to move our qb and work with what we have coming up?I know Micah gives us the best chance at winning when he is on point but he has not been on point since the 1st half of the mc game.I haven't seen any jv or 9th grade games so do we have any good looking qbs coming up?

We have lost four qbs in the last three years. Jake is in Bama, two are SHS and the other is at Boiling Springs.

Sack yards are considered RUSHING YARDAGE loss. The Byrnes running backs were running right up the middle all night for 6 and 8 yards a pop. When they hit the outside they were gone. We had a 70 yd run called back for a block in the back. I love talking good football to 42. I have one more qualm... To say if the filed was in better shape Spartanburg would have ran it up is crazy. Did you see Austin Scott's uniform? It was doo doo brown from head to toe. How many sacks and hurries did the Vikes give up?

I believe the Rebs have 4-5 in the first half as well. Not many in the second half, because SHS began rolling the pocket, taking pressure off of Scott and the offensive line.
