Do remember that the biggest variable that has never been done is the elimination of counting the 12th grade in the counts. It has never been done before. I have a feeling this re-alignment is going to be very interesting with several new schools opening, as mentioned up around Fountain Inn, and Lucy Beckham in Charleston will almost split Wando in one third from 3900 to 2400. It use to be a new school started with only 9th and 10th graders. They played a year of JV football and then moved to a Varsity Schedule in year 2. May River opened in 2016 with a Varsity Schedule and was immediately in AAA. Bring out your 8 Balls and start rubbing the Genie's belly where everyone will go in 2020!!

The 3rd place finisher in region 2 would be the 1 seed if they were in the region with Rock Hill, and NW. But then the points deal has its downside. At that point, sometimes the competition one plays becomes more important than how good you are. Regardless of how they do it, I hope they dont go back to the cross bracketing. Nobody from the upstate needs a trip to the coast. And vice versa.
I sorta think the competition u play tells how good u are...case in point Gaffney would be the 1 seed in the York co. Region with the home playoff games that come with it...guess there are 2 ways of looking at what you're saying though...

Me personally...I always liked the trips to the coast...especially the Gaffney/Summerville games...those were some classics...

Perhaps the SCHSL should adopt the blueprint that the NCAA uses and forms Regions for just football, and allow for more compact, travel oriented, Regions for the remainder of the sports. Only having to worry about travel expenses for football would allow ADs to put together schedules that would provide competition and offer the opportunity for out of state and intersectional games to boost gate monies. I don’t mind hybrid Classification or Regions where football is set different from all the other sports. The SCHSL doesn’t like it so I doubt it will change.

A modified point system with combined regions could work. A AA and AAA for regular season and then two brackets of 16 for playoffs but you have to leave the Region Champions some sort of bonus (first priority at seeding, bonus points).

The previous points system was inadvertently biased towards upper state schools because of the population boom up there, which let to it being pretty tough for a lower state school to host more than two rounds. That being said...I wouldn’t mind a modified points system because it would make for interesting matchups, which is the one thing liked about the previous system.

River Bluff High School
Spring Valley High School
Sumter High School
White Knoll High School

4
Ashley Ridge High School
Fort Dorchester High School
Goose Creek High School
Summerville High School
Wando High School
West Ashley High School

The BIG TWENTY FOUR: Using the last data from admissions, not CURRENT.

There is one MAJOR problem, but setting that aside, this doesn't look too bad. Take the top 4 from each Region to the playoffs. Anyone see the one MAJOR problem? I'm sure everyone will find reason this will not work, but hey, I took a shot.

That’s the one major issue.

The only problems I see off the bat are Boiling Springs is no where near the student count close to being on this group. Hanna, Woodmont, Mann, Easley, Wade Hampton, Westside, Riverside alone are larger in population. Going down the list on the net I still hadn't gotten to Spring Valley and Lexington, and Lugoff are bigger. In your count for #4 West Ashley is dwarfed by Stratford, Cane Bay, Colleton, and James Island. Carolina Forest which is listed as being the 4th largest school behind Wando, Summerville and Dorman isn't even list!
