I agree. BHP, Daniel, Wren, Eastside, Greenville, Greer, Travelers Rest, South Pointe, Ridge View and Westwood would kick out tails in 4A. We just under the wrong leadership at head coach. New leadership is coming soon then everyone will see the big change in our program.eagle93 wrote:I see. Yes, during the week it would make a difference. But just about either way you go you're going to have to travel an hour or more for 4A or 5A football opponents.Damefan wrote:I understand that the drive to Greenville is an easy drive, but it is one hour from Greenwood to Hanna. During a regular school week where you play games on days other than Friday and you get home after 11:00 which I had happen many times back when I was coaching. It is a issue with parents and students. Especially if you are in a region where it happens regularly.
Changing the subject, Greenwood would have been a perfect model for one large school in a town instead of two like the Allen, TX article talked about. Could you imagine the powerhouse Summerville would still be if the had built a larger Summerville High instead of building West Ashley! They would still be dominant! Sometimes bigger is better in more ways!
I do want to acknowledge that I know you want to be in AAAAA but still don’t think it will happen this time around. Best wishes on your appeal if it comes to that.
One big Greenwood school would be cool, but the powers that be have made the decision on that. There is enough talent in Greenwood to win though. That's just based on demographics alone. A good system and some creativity breeds success. Can't always win on just talent alone, especially if your opponent is equally as talented. I'm not sure we would've faired well in 4A this year either. Teams like Greenville use more creative plays and it works.
Yes we would like to stay 5A. To prove that with a better system and creativity that we can definitely compete. If we drop to 4A and win not much has been proven. But again. I'm not sure we would've won in 4A currently either. Teams like Greenville, BHP, Wren, Eastside, and especially South Point do things more creatively and are more balanced looking offensively.
May I ask which school did you coach at?

I won't go that far as predicting outcomes of teams we didn't play. What I can say is, the ones of them that I watched play were definitely being more creative. Aren't winning in 5A with no creativity offensively.StateChampsGHS wrote:I agree. Re: Realignment Talk
Where all I have coached is irrelevant, but what if I told you that I was approached and offered a position to coach at Greenwood within the past 10 years. I turned the opportunity down. It is true, but I had a better situation and the timing wasn't right so I chose to stay where I was! I don't think it is appropriate to disclose where I have been in that many of my comments are based on my experience and sometimes shared information along with my opinion. I still have friends whose teams I comment on still coaching and while we still talk some might not take kindly to my comments or opinions right or wrong. I hope you will except and respect my response.eagle93 wrote:I won't go that far as predicting outcomes of teams we didn't play. Re: Realignment Talk
I understand that and respect that. We all have opinions and they shouldn't be taken personally, even though sometimes they are. I'm just as guilty. I've made comments about coaching on here and I can feel the tension and awkwardness between me and the coach lately. Those who know me personally know my handle here also. No making different handles in attempt to hide from those who already know my handle and me. I think he's a great person, just don't agree with his offensive philosophy. It's really not a personal thing. I really wish Dan the best.Damefan wrote:Where all I have coached is irrelevant, but what if I told you that I was approached and offered a position to coach at Greenwood within the past 10 years. FWIW here are the enrollment numbers for as many schools as I could do from the SCDE's 2018-19 180 day (end of year) student count.

Re: Realignment Talk
Greenville County Schools 15 day count for 2019-20
Grades 9-11
Eastside 1,197
Greenville 1,235
Hillcrest 1,758
JL Mann 1,548 (9th grade class is just shy of 600, bigger than Mauldin's)
Mauldin 1,778
Riverside 1,375
Wade Hampton 1,412
Woodmont 1,402
Will be interesting to see where Eastside and Greenville end up. Chance that you could see 8 GC schools in 5A.

Re: Realignment Talk
As far as Greenville County......in truth, Wade Hampton should be reclassified 4A for athletics. When they built the new high school about a decade ago, the powers that be decided to build the county fine arts center on their campus. So lots of the folks at the fine arts center take their core courses at Wade Hampton. But you can figure how many athletes a fine arts center crowd produces for any sport.

Re: Realignment Talk
There are lots of "special cases" like that. In Florence county the IB program is located at Wilson HS. Some of those kids play soccer, volleyball and tennis, but with the exception of "kicker" none of those kids are playing football. It is what it is.Deputy wrote:As far as Greenville County......in truth, Wafe Hampton should be reclassified 4A for athletics. Southside HS in Greenville I'm sure is similar to Wilson in that they are the main IB school in the GCSD. I couldn't tell ya how much of their enrollment is IB students but I can tell ya that probably few of them play football.SF Band dad wrote:There are lots of "special cases" like that.
