When will the insanity stop? I hope soon cause I can't take much more of this. Seriously though it's been a long 5 years drought but the good news is I can definitely see the light at the end of the tunnel. A combination of lack of talent, not so great attitudes and work ethic and top it off with weight room issues have been too much to overcome. Both B Teams have only lost to each other the last 3 years and JV is 5-0 after hanging 58 on Myrtle Beach Thursday night so things are looking up. This years varsity team only has 12 seniors and is loaded with talented sophomores that are getting valuable varsity experience. Hired a new strength coach that has been the assistant strength coach at LSU, Ole Miss, Notre Dame and head strength coach at Wyoming so the Tigers will be back in a big way shortly. If you thought you heard the last from a player named Moody then watch out cause the double trouble twins are on their way. Looking forward to the future and getting back to enjoying one of my favorite past times High School Football.
Hey "Rific"......don't hang your head. This is high school football and quality talent seems to run in cycles. I have witnessed it for more than 40 years now.........success brings on complacency, and that brings on mediocrity. Conway has a proud tradition and the Tigers will be back. Some years you get to be the windshield, others you get to be the bug.
It could be worse........like what we have going on here in Beaufort County. Just passed new re-zoning and approved the building of yet another new high school, this time in the Bluffton area. We will have 6 public senior high schools in our little county starting in 2016. 5 of them, Beaufort, Possum Hill, Bluffton, Hilton Head, and the new Bluffton school, will all have AAA enrollments. Whale Branch only has a capacity of 550 students, so they will never get above AA. Our entire county has now been banished to the AAA level for good. Sad times for all here.
The "Godfather" didn't whine like The "Slobfather" is doing, when he got INDICTED!!!!!
Pengy, that was the plan of our school district to make all schools in the county around 1250. That was their "so called model" but the growth has been so fast that people are getting tired of funding new schools. Right now we have an over crowding issue with St James in Murrells Inlet and they don't know what to do. Crazy not to build that school big enough for growth to at least 1800. The two CF middle schools are a big issue right now. One Ocean Bay is busting at the seems and Black water is at half capacity but the parents are fighting the school board from moving some to Blackwater. They would still go to CF High School but they don't want that. I will have to give the school district credit for trying to move kids to use up the space we have before building more schools. Also to accommodate Blackwater they were to shift the Conway city limit kids back to Whittemore Park which is a Conway feeder school. That would give us about 300 more students and get us firmly in 4A. If they would have planned right Conway, CF, Socastee, and St James would all be 4A with only MB and NMB still in 3A but not with this board.
It's the same here in Florence. I believe that a 4th HS is in FSD1's construction plans. That would probably put WF & SF into 3A with Wilson, at least for a few years. The Horry county 4A schools may end-up in a region with Sumter, Lugoff and Spring Valley, unless Hartsville moves up when we drop off.
When is this happening? If so Horry Co will have to try and make an all 4a or 3a region. No way we can make a region like that work. The Horry County schools would play in a Charleston region before that. In fact there have been proposals with Conway and CF playing with Stratford, Goose Creek, and Wando.
I'm not sure, FSD1 has at least two replacement elementary schools under construction, a new middle school opened this year. We are playing "catch up", our schools were allowed to grow very old before the board and admin realized that the public was in no mood to take-on higher taxes and more debt to fund construction of every new school. In a district of +22 schools, you have to always have a new school under construction just to replace the oldest building which will be nearing the end of it's useful life.
I haven't looked over the plan details but the discussed "East Florence" HS could turn into a replacement for SF, with the existing building becoming the new Southside MS. They may opt to build a Freshman Academy building for WF, their entire Freshman class is currently in "mobile" classrooms. They will have to do something. It will get even more interesting if FSD4 (Timmonsville) folds-up and the western part of the county gets absorbed into FSD1.
