REGION THREE CHAMP WILL BE...
Re: REGION THREE CHAMP WILL BE...
I pretty sure it was Mason. NW has developed 2 outstanding QBs and both were 3 year starters. Justin and Mason are both big, strong armed QBs that have given NW 6 years of stability and excellent play at that position. That's something most teams can only dream of.

First, DeCav....Rudolph was who I was talking about
Well, here we are at the start of region play and the first fall weekend in October is upon us.
Northwestern is the clear favorite for region champ. It is theirs to lose.
South Pointe played a terrible game against Spartanburg. This is not a comment against the Vikings, just that it appears that South Pointe just had one of "those" nights. That being said, however, as of Tue Oct 1, South Pointe lost their starting quarterback to being arrested for selling pot on the school campus. The impact of this, at this point of the season, could be huge. Their defense is pretty solid and they have a monster defensive lineman animal, who may give the Northwestern offensive line huge problems. We will see Friday night.
York. A total unknown going into the season due to the number of senior's that graduated. Bobby Carrol has always been the defensive master coach and you can not count them out. Their offense seems to be able to put up lots of points. They have won the close games.
Rock Hill. It looks like this is another year of "could have", "should have", "oughta have". I didn't think Joe Montgomery would be back this year, but he did......we will see if he is back next year. They have Northwestern's old DC, Mike Biddix, who was Joe's DC back in a previous glory run that Gaffney had. Right now, they don't have the size, nor the talent to hold up. Rock Hill also has a new OC, Bubba Pittman, and there is the beginning of signs that there may be a spark of offense other than the old smashmouth, 4 yards in a cloud of dust style of offense. Most importantly, Rock Hill has a new strength and conditioning coach. How this is all going to play out over the next few years will be interesting to watch.
Nation Ford is winning against the teams they should beat and is probably the 4th team from Region 3 to make the playoffs....just as Reb74 has projected.....unless South Pointe totally implodes. Mike Allen has done a good job there. Can they take it to the next level? They still have a ways to go.
Clover has a new coach, Chad Smith from Easley. There is excitement back in Clover about the program. The sex scandal from a few years ago..WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE ALL LIES YET RIPPED THE SCHOOL AND THE COMMUNITY APART....appears to be in the past and rebuilding that program has started. Will the wing-t still be able to compete against these spread offenses? They need size and talent to try and make it work.
All the rest, including Rock Hill, are playing for 4th in the region. Whether South Pointe slides down will be something to watch.
Key games in Region 3 the rest of the year are:
Oct 4 Northwestern at South Pointe. This game's tenor totally changed with the South Pointe quarterback situation.
Oct 25 York at Northwestern. This one is shaping up to be the region championship game.
Nov 1 South Pointe at York. What will the South Pointe team be like in a month?
Nov 8 Rock Hill at Northwestern. Old rivalry game where anything can, and has happened!

Hmmm...this does not bode well for the Trojans.Rebel-Fan-74 wrote:I'd say Northwestern is about as solid of a pick as any you could make except maybe Greenwood winning Region One.

That comment was from back on Sep 4. How things can change in a month!DeCav wrote:Hmmm...this does not bode well for the Trojans.Rebel-Fan-74 wrote:I'd say Northwestern is about as solid of a pick as any you could make except maybe Greenwood winning Region One.
Re: REGION THREE CHAMP WILL BE...
Yeah, no doubt! Such a strange year in a lot of ways. I mean a month ago Greenwood was the bench mark for stability as far as winning a region. And look at region 8. I don't know which way is up now with them. I might have jumped the gun on my vote for Bluffton. Didn't realize they got set back so much from last year. I guess now it's as likely to be the team who got completely left off the ballot as it is for the Greenwave.trojangrad78 wrote:That comment was from back on Sep 4.
