Now that we can hopefully discuss the original thread, who are some of the main threats to a Daniel repeat? In our conference, is Wren bringing back alot? BHP seems to have been down last few years but have usually played Daniel tough. I'm still not quite use to this quick strike offense the Lions have, but it is fun to watch. As for as upperstate 3A, Chapman should still be tough, not sure about Woodruff or any of the others. Just curious who the contenders could be.

I expect Wren to be the biggest threat. They are bringing back a good chunk of their starters on both sides of the ball. Most importantly their Running Back who was the reason that offense did anything this year. Defense will have holes to fill at Linebacker but they are good on the DL and in the secondary. I’m not sure what other 3A upperstate team is bringing back as much depth from the year before.

As far as other potential threats you have Chapman who could make noise but I think they are about to fall off without Hodge at the helm. Union County and Woodruff maybe? They had solid years but I don’t know what they have coming back. Chester could possibly be a player in the upperstate as well as Fairfield Central but I am unfamiliar with them so I can’t say for sure what they’ll be like.

These Dutch Fork fans sound ridiculous bumping their gums about beating smaller schools. They don't want to face a team like Abbeville as much as they think! I doubt Abbeville would win. Simply because of the numbers. Dutch Fork would need an open date the next week. DF is having a great run. Just like many others have done before. Get DF to schedule these games you all speak of. These smaller schools always have trouble getting the bigger schools to schedule them. Dutch Fork has a great program, no doubt. Why do you feel the need to disparage other programs? It is a compliment when others want to use you as a measuring stick. Why does a compliment offend you?

Wren will be a threat. I want to say BHP, but not sure why they seemed to have slipped a bit. Chapman will still be good, but don't see that program staying at the level they have been the last few years. Woodruff will be OK, but rarely beat anyone of consequence. Union? Hard to guage. One of the schools kind of screwed up by Covid this year. Got to figure Chester will be pretty good. FC should be. But one has to figure it is Daniel's to lose. Of course, have no idea what all of these teams may be losing to graduation.

Those that keep saying Chapman- get REAL. Cannabis will kill the program. Especially since he has used his FB page to openly recruit. Wren will be tough. I think there may be a surprise or 2 in the weeds.

Is he using his personal or the school Facebook to recruit. Not that it matters.
Honestly not worried about Chapman they let been living rent free in the upstate since all the normal 3a power teams went 4A 5 years ago. Now those schools are back and like I said when I saw them they looked more like a 2a school size wise. Which is where they have been the majority of their history.
Unless Wren is recruiting another qb like they have 3 of the last 4 I’m not much concerned about them either.

Ddub - So Wren has recruited a qb or two? Kinda fell out of loop due to sickness so haven't followed hs ball closely last few years. Other than my Lions games. Know Wren has Bryant and Courtney's son, Jay Ulrich at one point. Just knew they aired it out one year and seemed to try to ground and pound this year. I know Lions JV had good year so should be done good talent to come in to hopefully replace seniors we are losing.

After Urich they had Tyrell Jackson who was an in house player. After he graduated they recruited Joe Owens originally from Mauldin and he helped lead them to state in 2019. Then this past year they brought in Noah Staples who was at JL Mann for his first 3 years. They have two QB’s within their program right now who are going to be a Junior and Freshman.

No one is bumping their gums about beat no small schools those fans bought us up and we just keeping it real. It wouldn’t be a game and it’s that simple. DF honestly has nothing to gain playing Abbeville or Daniel. Those teams don’t even schedule the 5A schools in their area. So it’s no point in DF playing them. DF is focused on playing on a national scale to get recognition outside of SC.

Really don't want to keep drudging up this conversation but on September 14, 1990 Daniel played and defeated a nationally ranked 7A team from Alabama. Yeah thats 7A, which is bigger than 5A around here. And yes the classifications matter, they are there for a reason. This team refused to dress out in our visitors side locker room. They opted to dress out at Clemson. Regardless they still took an "L" back to Alabama with them. So never think you are too big and mighty to get beat. That was 7A school and would make 5A school look like jv, just saying. But regardless we are discussing chances and opposition to Lions repeating as state champs as they are most exciting team to watch in the state.
