First, I think a family should be able to go where they choose. But if we really want to tighten things up then it is really very simple. If you transfer you sit, period. But the schools won't go for that. So it's really a dead issue.
agree. the schools that lose players want the sit a year and the teams that gain players don't. Think most here are for school choice

So far, that has been 100% true, school choice is not a concern for any one that I've spoken to or heard from on the board. The only issue is the OPEN recruiting. When it comes to transfers, there is no way to determine if it was "legitimate" or for athletic reasons. Heck, I personally know of a parent who moved so their child could be in the Rebel Regiment back when the Byrnes Band was so dominant and going to Bands of America events in Atlanta, Johnson City, Indianapolis, etc. I think it's great that the parent wanted something for their child so much they are willing to relocate. There are all kinds of reasons people move, two years ago someone wanted my house enough to make me one of those GODFATHER type offers, you know, "an offer you can't resist!!!" I moved for $$$$$$$$$ pure and simple.

Sitting out because you transfer is rather harsh when reasons are not always obvious. People have job issues, other family issues, taking care of parents, can't afford the house we were in, found my Dream House and a great deal, moved in with my new wife, or thousands of other reasons. How do you "PROVE BEYOND A DOUBT" that it was just for athletics?

A little off track but here it goes.
Lets say we took the top 100 120 players in this state .
Made two schools . Wouldn't you agree we could contend with the boscos and imgs on a pure talent level.
Some are afraid that is what is happening with the schools we are talking about; just instead of 2 schools, we are talking about 4 or 5 schools.

You are correct, no way to determine how and why moves are made and to be real it isn't anyone's business. So we can't play judge and jury for one set of circumstances and then play fair and impartial for the same things. Can't say school X recruits players and its unfair and then at the same time when a QB or stud player moves from another state or gets an apartment in the district say its a legitimate move.. its either all or nothing.

I don't know if I would go that far.... an individual move is not the same as OPEN RECRUITING. Yes, an individual transfer can smell like fresh dog poop, but when all players are recruited, taken from anywhere including out of state and not from a designated area, I can see how that would call for specific guidelines to be implemented. What the guidelines are is the question. SCHSL does have guidelines for individual transfers and how they are handled.... the fact that they don't do it well and they really don't do it consistently aside... they do at least have those rules in place.

Has there been any discussion about an "Open Classification" like some states have that allows for private schools to play against the largest schools? One state that comes to mind is California where they have Mater Dei, St. John Boscoe, De La Salle, and others that play against schools that are 3 to 4 times their size. They have I think 5 classifications in that state, but the largest play in the open classification, and others can choose to play in the open class.

This would place schools that are private that allow scholarships to be placed in this classification, schools that are openly sports schools, and the defined (attendance) largest schools to be placed together. This would also allow for those schools who wish to compete in this classification to also be in with the group instead of being placed based on attendance numbers.

Another thing that I think needs to be addressed is the fact that in the attendance numbers are the special ed kids that will never participate in sports but are counted as part of the attendance numbers and affect the enrollment counts. There are some schools that have a significant number of kids in these programs. For some schools, it could be the difference in which classification they are in and could change their ability to be competitive. Before someone says what about other groups, let me make it clear there is a difference between being able to compete, and physically and mentally being able to compete. I love this group of kids and have worked with them since I was 8 years old. So please don't get me in a debate about this because I will not even respond to it.

serious question. girls cannot play football (pretty much), so count them in enrollment?

hear me out. School A has 1,000 students (500 male 500 female). School B has 1,000 students (700 male, 300 female). does/could it make a difference on the field?

I agree with you about the count as far as special ed students go. Some schools have more than others, and some have none I'm guessing

Onion on the girl playing thing you might want to ask Marion about that. They had a girl DL last year that was 6 ft 1 275lbs and made plays . There’s video proof 😂.

Newberry had 1 in the mid 2000's that played DT that was about the same size. She played on the 06 state finalist team. We were playing at Saluda once and I was standing with some Saluda fans who kept going on and on about how "that DT is a monster, hardest hitting guy we've seen all year". I started laughing and told them she was a girl. They lost their minds. She played a few years in some women's tackle league after that.
