serious question. girls cannot play football (pretty much), so count them in enrollment?

hear me out. School A has 1,000 students (500 male 500 female). School B has 1,000 students (700 male, 300 female). does/could it make a difference on the field?

I agree with you about the count as far as special ed students go. Some schools have more than others, and some have none I'm guessing
Not talking about only football, my wife and I had dinner with a couple tonight that the wife works with Special Ed in a Lower State district school system and there are individual high schools that have as many as 150+ kids in these programs. This can drastically affect where a program is placed in the realignment for kids that will NEVER participate in virtually any activity at their school.

If the schools no longer count the 12th grade for the purpose of determining where a school will be placed for the next 2 years not knowing exactly how many kids will be coming in, and as few as 5 kids can determine the difference between being placed in the different classes (A, AA, AAA, AAAA, AAAAA) why count kids in SE? My point is to count the kids who are able to participate and not penalize a school whose Principal was kind enough to allow and support a program in his school that now penalizes his athletic programs. There are Principals that have rejected or turned away the SE programs because of the work it takes to make them work successfully.

Why not put them all in SCISA? Seriously, they have maybe two or three teams that are competitive, yet they all play each other throughout the year then again in a watered down playoff format.
Majority of them recruit to get better instead of working. Should be even for them across the board.

They just recruit instead of working ? You see when you make ignorant statements like that you just discredit yourself from any real conversation. These school attract the better coaches many times and in the case of Gaffney vs Gray .. Gaffney was out coached but they had one or two more athletes to overcome it. Too many times you just blame it on "Oh they recruit" .. well guess what everyone does. Some of these "big schools" aren't well coached or prepared.. AKA Gaffney. Oh and guess what .. Gaffney QB is a recruit from Blue Ridge !

With the ref shortage .saying that these pvt schools are depleting refs from schl games .why not take schl refs out of pvt school games ?
It's a critical shortage as it is.

My comment about recruiting to get better instead of working to get better was directed at SCISA schools. However, the likes of Gray do recruit (obviously) but at least they put work behind it. Next time don’t assume before you start flapping your gums. In your own words “when you make ignorant statements like that you just discredit yourself from any real conversation.”

Just curious. Could you provide all the examples of their obvious recruitment? It appears they only have 30 players. I know their RB is a 4 year starter with over 5000 yards on his career.

According to your profile, this is only your second post, so maybe you don't understand...

On message boards, proof is not required, nor is it even wanted officially. Lord help us, if you state actual facts... well you are obviously a trouble maker!

Sorry for my sarcastic remarks, but seriously, welcome to the board if this is in fact only your second post, then PLEASE POST MORE!!!! And for your post, that is the key to a lot of this discussion. As stated before, many students are moved to a school because of reasons that have ZERO to do with athletics. Folks have been going to Spartanburg Day School long before Zion went there, and was his reason for transferring there athletics? I know MANY transfers are for athletic reasons; but that doesn't mean the school had anything to do with it!

If my grandson was a great WR and we lived in the Chapin district, I'd have my son move to Dutch Fork in a heartbeat and I have never met Coach Knotts, never spoken to him, and as far as I know, not one member of the staff as well. Is that "recruiting"?

Right now, I'd have him move away from District Five of Spartanburg County if possible and it has nothing to do with the current status of the football team. Byrnes is overcrowded, hallways jammed full of students, and it's only getting worse. Classrooms are full and over the "target" capacity in most classes. I've had a couple of my family members move to another district for that reason, and the sons were starters on Defense for the new school. They weren't "recruited".

BUT, that doesn't change the fact that they CAN and DO recruit.... legally and openly.

I'm thinking about entering the transfer portal!

I know it cost a lot of money to send a kid to a
school like Southside Christian.Do schools like
this send people out to different high school
football games and if they see a good player
ask his parents if he can come to their school
for free and play football or do they only recruit
kids who can afford to come.

not sure how this thread survived this long, but...

Most "recruiting" starts with the parents of the player. Your home town team/coach is a disaster, so naturally, as you see your kid developing, you look at other options. You make contacts, you inquire

It's pretty obvious usually who the good players of a town are by junior high. So, now if the high school situation is bleak, what to do? Go somewhere else to play or don't play. Many of the great players in our local community's don't play at all. Can you and your family afford to move to a better situation?

the people that get upset about recruiting are losing players to better situations. Maybe look at your school/town/coach and ask yourself, why are players either leaving or not playing. Maybe if we fix our situation the players will want to play here (I'm looking at you Chris Liner and Greenwood)

the bottom line is a large percentage of high school coaches are imbeciles who have no business running a program. The players should not have to choose between an idiot coach or not playing at all, but that's the reality. People with money can move where they want to and improve their situation. People without it cannot and usually, just don't play
