You have no clue how close I am to the program with two family members teaching in the school district, and two family members coaching at Greenwood, and family living there! Remember I also said that if you would have been in AAAA when Pippin was there you would have won and now you did. When a new coach comes to town everyone wants to try him out just like they did with Pippin. Let's see what happens over the next couple of years. As I recall Pippin took ya'll to an Upper State championship (no he didn't win a Region title) in the first couple of years against Clover and lost with a QB that couldn't see (couldn't throw the ball past 15 yards) and your run game was shut down with one of the best RB in the state that year. Clover stacked the box and you were done, I was there. Also, I will add let's see if you remain in AAAA or you get your wish playing the big boys AAAAA in today's environment. It is a different game than 15-20 years ago!GwoodEagle2k1 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 17, 2021 7:22 amFirst of all I hate to hear what's going on at North Augusta. Y'all have a proud tradition down there and I hope you guys can get it back going.
The main reason I'm commenting is because Greenwood was mentioned in regards to Dan Pippin by someone (Damefan) who's not close to the program and doesn't have a clue about Greenwood football.
The reasons Pippin didn't work at Greenwood is because he refused to change what didn't work. Pippin runs an RPO type spread offense. I'd say 4 of the 6 years he was at Greenwood we didn't have the personnel for that offense. The 2 years we did have the personnel he couldn't win a region title. Lost to a 4-5 Laurens team the 1st time we could have won it. Lost to a 4 loss Hillcrest team in which we scored 44 points at home and didn't get it done. Greenwood's culture is power football under center. Most years that's our personnel and he refused to change. Another reason is he couldn't relate to the kids like we hoped he would. Chris Liner has only been the HBC at Greenwood for a year and a half and had already won region. We run the flexbone because it matches our personnel the best. Therefore we are successful. If we don't have the personnel to run the flexbone Liner will change it to whatever we have the personnel for. You have to put your kids in the best possible situation for them to be successful. Dan Pippen didn't do that. Pippin is a great coach if you have a good quarterback that can run the spread. I wish it would have worked out better but it didn't. No sour grapes. He just wasn't a good fit for Greenwood and I wish him nothing but the best. Just my opinion because I don't know but I figure he's a great fit for North Augusta because he knows y'all's culture. It's more than just x's and o's. I wholeheartedly agree that 5A is really hard. But we started losing to teams that hadn't beat us in 10 plus years. Laurens, Easley, Hanna, woodmont ECT... I gave him a pass on Hanna because they were legitimately really good at the time. But not the others. Just an opinion by a Greenwood fan/alumnus who's actually close to the program. Best wishes to North Augusta getting y'all's program back on track.

I don't care what family members teachers or whoever you claim to know. When it comes to Greenwood football, you don't know jack. Chris Liner has already accomplished more than Dan Pippin by winning region. He hasn't even been there 2 years! Thats a fact. Pippins first year in 4A we got to upstate and lost. Pippins 2nd year in 4A we didn't even make the playoffs! AND we didn't win region either of Pippin's 4A years. So you can't use the 4A deal either. He didn't win region in 4A or 5A. More facts for you!Damefan wrote: ↑Fri Dec 17, 2021 8:16 amYou have no clue how close I am to the program with two family members teaching in the school district, and two family members coaching at Greenwood, and family living there! Lets's see what the future holds for your team. In the coaching world, some would say the previous coach laid the foundation that the new coach enjoys if they recover that quickly. You being an armchair QB need to come to reality and just admit Greenwood doesn't like outsiders! You treated Willis and Pippin like a goose crap!! Have a Merry Christmas I am going to catch a boat for an overdue vacation! By the way, I was in Greenwood last weekend for a wedding!! If you actually think Dan Pippin laid the foundation for Chris Liner's success, then you're waaaaaaay more delusional on this particular subject than I give you credit forDamefan wrote: ↑Fri Dec 17, 2021 8:42 amLets's see what the future holds for your team. Completely agree. I knew plenty of kids at Greenwood who were really talented athletes but didn’t want to play for pippin. Greenwood is going to be really good the next few years. Pippin got a program that went to three state championship games before he got there. He didn’t run the right offense. If he did I think he could’ve had success.

Re: North Augusta Head Coach Resigns
So I was on the team that lost to Clover in 2007. We won State the year before in 2006 with the same QB you are referring to. Jay Spearman was a tremendous athlete and QB for Greenwood. We got beat by a better team in 07. Simple as that. You're criticizing Shell Dula teams that won multiple state titles and started the whole "not losing region streak". No one at Greenwood dislikes Dan Pippen because he's a so called outsider. He's a great guy and a good coach when he has the talent to run a spread offense. Greenwood has talent most years for power football like some have said. If he would have just run I form or wing T he would have had success like all the other Greenwood coaches. But he didn't so it is what it is..... Pippin was hired to keep the Greenwood tradition going like all the other coaches and wasn't able to do it like we thought he would. Plain and simple. Has nothing to do with this "outsiders" BS. I'll will give Pippin credit for all the stadium upgrades though. He's a good athletic director. I just wished he would have changed his scheme to match the Greenwood personnel and talent.Damefan wrote: ↑Fri Dec 17, 2021 8:16 amYou have no clue how close I am to the program with two family members teaching in the school district, and two family members coaching at Greenwood, and family living there! Pippin fielded a good team at Greenwood those 2 years he had Dre and RoShun at quarterback. Didn't win region when we should have. Water under the bridge. We're happy with Liner now. Good luck to Pippin in whatever he does. Let's please move on Greenwood fans!

Oh I'm with you 100 percent! I just commented because a particular poster who is not close with the Greenwood program started taking about Greenwood football. Just wanted to set the record straight with the actual factual. Best wishes to Dan Pippin!EmeraldCityEagle98 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 26, 2021 3:41 pmPippin fielded a good team at Greenwood those 2 years he had Dre and RoShun at quarterback. I haven't seen the final adm numbers but both North Augusta and Greenwood stay in 4A in the current proposed realignment.
