Daniel aside, how are some of the other 3A teams looking this spring?
I saw Clinton the other day. A good number of kids out for practice. Did not see a great deal of size- some good size kids it seemed but not a lot. Watched them for a bit- have some quickness/speed (or I am just getting older and slower... ha). They had a good season last year. Apparently they did not prepare well for the Lions and got woodshedded.
How are some of the other 3A squads looking?

DF you could’ve stopped at the first word you typed
But ok I’ll bite
As far as Clinton goes unless they’ve come out of the dark ages with that offense well I’ll just say I’ll believe it when I see it.
I’m worried that we will not be prepared for the playoffs once they roll around competition wise.
If we stay healthy we will be a monster on offense.
We have a lot to replace on D but we had depth there and we still have playmakers on that side with Geer and Kelly.
The biggest thing now is the numbers that we are bringing out . Should have more of an idea about them in 2 weeks after spring game.
As far as everyone else
I look for Powdersville to be the main challenge in the upperstate
Chapman should win their region but that’s not saying much either
I look for Chester to take a step back.
Low numbers from what I saw last year and they relied heavily on one guy.
Lower state something tells me it’s Beaufort and maybe lower Richland
I don’t Camden gets back to state and Dillon has lost their edge.
I’ll be spending about half the season at other games this year
Watching Daniel brutalize Pickens Walhalla west oak Pendleton and crescent are not on the agenda
So I may go to some of these other 3a games to see what they got.

Re: 3A- 2022 Season
I think Clinton will be fine and should probably win their region. Do I expect them to end up in Columbia? No. But should go deep. The team is extremely well coached and they have gotten the numbers back up.
Chester might not be as good as they were when they won state, but any team coached by Floyd is going to be pretty good.
Figure in the rest of that region you can throw a blanket over the others and see where they fall out. Broome has improved, but think they have their limits. Woodruff is always just OK, and will be again. The bottom fell out at Union, can they put it back together? Emerald is the biggest mystery in the state. Annually have as much talent on the field as anyone, but always appear to be the most undisciplined team one will see.
Chapman.....they will still be good. And will waltz to a region title since they got slotted in the weakest 3-A region one can remember. But I think things have slowly slipped since Hodge left. Because they will be a 1 seed, they may last to round 3, but once they have to play somebody that will be it.
Powdersville has a good thing going. Will see if they can keep it up.
We will see what comes out of lower state, but still don't see anybody touching Daniel

Re: 3A- 2022 Season
My Beaufort Eagles are dropping down to 3A next season. I think that My Eagles Football Team will be one of the favorites in 3A this upcoming season. Beaufort does lose their 4-year starter at QB but the Eagle's Defense will be Loaded. It should be really hard to score against Beaufort's "D" this upcoming season. The Eagles Offense still should be pretty good also, as they return a lot of starters, but with a new QB to break in, it will be interesting, even though the new QB did get some Reps in the State Championship Game. Beaufort and Daniel should be the favorites to meet in the 2022 3A State Title Football Game this Season.

Re: 3A- 2022 Season
I don't see anybody coming from below the Columbia area being a serious threat in any classification. Upstate, and certain schools around Columbia, just have far better programs with better coaching.
Re: 3A- 2022 Season
Believe me we’ve had enough battles with Chester the last 15 years that I’m not sleeping on them.
But from what I’ve observed the last two years they are not as close as most might think . Daniel put 108 points on them the last two years. They were not that deep last year and they relied on Dunham on both the offense and defensive side of the ball. If not for him they wouldn’t even had been in the position to play in the upper state last year.
Daniel on the other hand is deep and return almost everyone on offense minus the qb . But think about this . They’ve won the state back to back and Chris Edge hasn’t touched the field one down in 8 of their 10 playoff games including both upper and state games. And he was probably Daniels biggest home run hitter
But we shall see
Re: 3A- 2022 Season
Honestly, I don't think it matters much, especially in the Upper State or the state as a whole in 3A this season- will be about like the last two years. Just no real threat. I haven't drunk the Powdersville Koolaid yet. Not sure what Chapman, Clinton and Chester can muster, especially in regard to quality depth you need by the end of a long season. Have to wait and see on the Lower State teams....maybe Beaufort, maybe Dillon, maybe Camden, maybe LR....but just a lot of questions marks. I know the DWD fans are a little frustrated with the schedule, but at the end of the day I don't think it will matter. Waltz through the season and not have a game closer that 3 or 4 TDs if I am being honest. Maybe a team will step up- have to wait and see.Ddub14 wrote: ↑Fri May 20, 2022 12:48 pm

Re: 3A- 2022 Season
Emerald is going to be one of the worst teams in 3A.
They have the talent as usual but nepotism has crept back into that program.
I think Dubose thought it would be easier to turn things around by bringing in all of his guys, but dumbed down football is not how you win when you have skill talent.
Emerald needs an Air Raid coach to come in there and throw the rock around. They have loads of speed every year. Back from 2013-2017, they won a lot of ball games with a run heavy spread. What kept them out of the upper state title game was their inability to pass consistently.

Re: 3A- 2022 Season
Emerald has always been the biggest mystery in the state to me. For years they have had size up front, and as much speed elsewhere as anybody. The talent has obviously been there for a long time but yet they underachieve year, after year. One thought with the change in coaching staffs that things would change. But it never does. Maybe the issues at Emerald goes beyond coaching.
