Emerald is always hard to figure out for sure. Look like a million bucks coming off the bus but never quite live up to the potential. A good coach there could do wonders . Problem is there are to many vultures in that area that come to pick off good coaches and players. Being squeezed by Greenwood and Abbeville doesn’t help either.
Btw Daniels new line coach this year is Gabe Cervanka.
He was a great player in high school and solid performer on the college level as well.
3A- 2022 Season
Re: 3A- 2022 Season
Being a good player doesn't always make for a good coach. Seems that most of your better coaches were marginal players. Have seen a guy not too many years back. Was an All Pro in the league. He could surely do it, but it didn't translate into him being a good coach in any way.

Gage is a fantastic kid. He is one of the strongest players I’ve ever seen so hopefully he’s involved in S&C too.Ddub14 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 23, 2022 2:42 pmEmerald is always hard to figure out for sure. He’ll be a great coach, imo.

Emerald was really good in 2013 and 2014. Their staff in 2014 was tremendous and Mac tore it down because he was looking over his shoulder and setting the table for his son (who has done a good job at Gaffney btw).Deputy wrote: ↑Thu Jun 23, 2022 2:09 pmEmerald has always been the biggest mystery in the state to me. For years they have had size up front, and as much speed elsewhere as anybody. The talent has obviously been there for a long time but yet they underachieve year, after year. One thought with the change in coaching staffs that things would change. But it never does. Maybe the issues at Emerald goes beyond coaching.
That 2014 team manhandled Abbeville and would’ve beat Greenwood High that year if they played. Pippin was scared.

Just letting the Viking followers know
He’s our third DL coach in as many years
Clemson keeps recruiting them from us as well

Re: 3A- 2022 Season
How can Clemson keep recruiting them from y’all? When they’re the ones that put them there. Let them get a few years at Daniel and then bring them back. Don’t lie to people. We know Clemson is running that program I.e placing coaches on staff making Clemson staff guys break down film and tendencies. I can keep on but I won’t. Just be happy that you will win 2 more titles before having to move to 4A. And tell the coach to maybe schedule someone hard for once.Ddub14 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 25, 2022 2:24 pmNever said he would be a good coachBlister wrote: ↑Thu Jun 23, 2022 10:22 pmBeing a good player doesn't always make for a good coach. Dude you have a major hard on for Daniel
I have my suspicions why?
But since you won’t claim anyone it’s real easy to be keyboard tough guy.
How did I lie ?
Just because your hired somewhere doesn’t make you an automatic hire somewhere else.
And we will enjoy winning two more state titles if it comes to that. And if we do go to 4A in two years watch out because the talent that’s coming is going to be off the charts .
I will agree with you that I would like to see a harder schedule because beating everyone by 40-50 every week does get boring. Maybe whatever team your a fan of can pick up the phone.

Re: 3A- 2022 Season
Out of all the posts I've seen on SCPrepTalk, I think this one is one of the truest. Just because a player was good or at least decent in college or the Pros doesn't translate to coaching success.Blister wrote: ↑Thu Jun 23, 2022 10:22 pmBeing a good player doesn't always make for a good coach. I will say though, that one of the more notable and recent examples - South Pointe's Devonte Holloman could do both, as well as:
Brian Rimpf (first team All-Conference USA for three years in college) (He's done an outstanding job of coaching the Camden High Bulldogs)
Steve Tanneyhill (in the Ring of Honor at U of SC, although, "Carolina's in Chapel Hill and USC's in California and the University in this state always has been always will be... Clemson." - The legendary Dabo Swinney himself

Hayden Wilks (Good career at Newberry College on a stellar O-Line) (Great High School OL coach),
Charlie Brown (2-time NFL All-Pro and Pro Bowl Receiver, & a Super Bowl ring with Washington in the 80s) (A heck of a coach too),
Alex Gaston (2-time All State RB for Cheraw in HS & Record setting RB in JUCO. He always gave good ol' Dean Boyd and the MCHS Bulldogs such a hard time with his running abilities. I can recall seeing Cheraw's star RB break long Touchdown runs from the stands at McAlpine Stadium) (Gaston ran a good running game at Marlboro County as Run Game Coordinator, and he did well as Cheraw's Head JV Football coach too. Them boys would easily put up 30 points at Cheraw and they were even better than the Varsity. They didn't lose too many games either),
Tyronne Drakeford (played in and made an impact in nearly 100 games for the 49ers, Washington, & the Saints as a 2nd Round Pick) (North Central struggled in his first year of 2017 and also with a underclassmen heavy team in 2021, but from 2018 through 2020 NCHS was 10-6 in Region play)
As it turns out, some guys, like the guys listed above (and many more I'm sure) are actually good/decent at both coaching and playing the game of football.
P.S. I noticed that 3 out of the 6 guys I listed (Brown, Wilks, & Gaston) have all coached at THE Marlboro County High School.
Re: 3A- 2022 Season
And I can list just as many, that couldn't coach a rooster to wake up at sunrise. Some can be fine, but just because one was a great player means little when it comes to coaching talent
Re: 3A- 2022 Season
i heard Strom Thurmond will be much improved this season. New coaching staff doing great and the turnout has been huge. Lot of excitement around the team for this Fall.
