Re: RHH football program
It’s sad to see what Rock Hill has become. I remember going to D3 20 years ago and Byrnes made a goal line stand at the end to win like 7-0. Those RH defenses back then gave nothing and it was hard earned. Unfortunately Byrnes now is only a few steps from where you are now. The program is a shell of itself from where it was ten years ago

I know Coach Shrock just retired - but from the looks of the SSC coach you have now and the JFB players - you are going to be in excellent hands in that regard. That alone likely helps you win more than you lose(being better physically prepared).Darth Rebel wrote: ↑Tue Aug 23, 2022 12:02 pmIt’s sad to see what Rock Hill has become. It does make me look at certain posters on this board and wonder if "they know their schools football history"? If so, you wonder if they take it for granted that they are winning "NOW"! Because it's no guarantee it will continue forever!
Byrnes will be fine - there are always people moving to the upstate of SC. All JFB needs is a good offensive mind; like Gaffney/Fort D/Goose Creek/Berkley/NW/S'ville/Flora/Blythewood/Myrtle Beach,Dillon, SP, etc. - good players aren't the issue at JFB. That right coach just needs to come along and perhaps they are already there!!!!
Just don't allow JFB or any of the beforementioned programs allow: "straight politics to dictate your football program"! And make sure somebody who is willing to do what it takes(I get it; it takes a lot of time away from family, friends, hobbies, religion, etc.) to win! At least for a few years anyway - maybe a good delegator that has a good staff to break up some of the behind the scenes stuff. But, micro-managers who don't trust people "want to do it all and most often fail"! They don't delegate; get burned out or fail then start blaming others. That's why you have to hire well. Put people in place and "trust them to bring time/sacrifice to the table"! But, again if there is no trust, it won't happen. < - - - - - - based off what I am told stuff!

Former Players Would Sign
Usually former players defend "their coach"! But, it's very telling to me that out of 5 former players I asked if they would sign a petition to have the current HC removed who played for him said, they would"!
Which was a big "WOW moment for me"! We didn't win the championship when I was in school; but besides my parents my coach is someone I would fight for and go down with the ship for. I couldn't imagine saying that.
It is apparently pretty bad and one hand washing another politics at RHH is going to keep it going apparently. It's creepy and it's sickening! Against NW, the whole talent disparity argument might save the current HC. But, if like in past years, RHH is losing to teams they are no less than equally talented as or slightly better - "THEN WHAT"?

Darth, where do you think the changes need to be made at Byrnes to get back to 10-15 years ago???
Re: RHH football program
High school football is very cyclical. I’m not sure if I ever was a fan of Northwestern’s “Tradition Never Graduates” slogan. The best coaches seem to minimize the effects of the cycles, but the majority of coaches don’t. Football in the 70’s as a decade was pretty bad in Rock Hill for both programs. Still NW took their slogan and really didn’t skip much of a beat after SP opened. RH started a slow decline to where they are now where it has been 18 seasons since they played for state and has been 14 seasons since they played in a semifinal. My feeling is the Pittman has “got to go” thing has been going on for a while among the Bearcat players and community and this now is the result. There wasn’t a big fuss on this board, but I’m sure around town this has been a big topic for debate, but also to ridicule those associated with the program. Nobody wants to be associated with a loser. Win or lose I’m pulling for RH. I almost drove to Rock Hill the past 2 Fridays as I was off work, but I had my vehicle worked on both of those days.

It was hard to watch in the Jamboree Maniac! Byrnes was out warming up on the sideline with minutes to go in the DF/NW scrimmage. No RHH to be found - coach/player/nothing! I heard someone go: "they sure they told RH to be here"?Maniac wrote: ↑Tue Aug 23, 2022 4:46 pmHigh school football is very cyclical. They were apparently across in the field or something - IDK. But, about a full minute after Byrnes took the field the Bearcats came out.
Walked out. Not a whole lot of juiced up ready to get after it dudes ready to rumble. I can't put that on the kids either for the record.
I called that out immediately mind you.
I also called out the lackluster conditioning. Come on now!
I'm afraid Rock Hill has become a program run "by the booster club"! Something! IDK - painful to watch though.
Booster club schools are just happy to be playing with the oblong-funny-shaped-sphere-called a football! They care more about getting their partners kids on the field instead of play-makers.
Crazy!

Re: RHH football program
Looking at Rock Hills slide over the last couple decades, have a question. Don't live in Rock Hill so I don't have a clue. But did the opening of South Pointe basically gut Rock Hills previous talent base? Just seems that South Pointe hit the ground running and Rock Hill has done little since SP opened
Re: RHH football program
I could go down that rabbit hole and tell you all about why Rock Hill started to decline in football after South Pointe opened as Dave Pickren predicted would happen. I disagreed at the time. RH had some of the best defenses I ever saw in high school football. Bottom line as previously mentioned is Rock Hill has not capitalized on their own student body as well as they should have. Multiple, multiple Bearcat posters have mentioned this throughout the years. Rock Hill endured many years of football misfortune whether it be injuries, players transferring to other schools. bad coaching, etc.
