He is no particular coaching genius. But he recruits very well. And talent beats scheme any day of the week. Laurens still has athletes. Many don’t play for various reasons. Not necessarily to do with the coach or current staff. Maybe he feels he could reel those in, and then maybe peel off a few from Clinton and have a pretty good program.

From a game planning, Xs and Os, or making adjustments, losing Porter is not a big deal. From recruiting talent standpoint this would hurt. Where can he recruit at Laurens?

Wouldn't surprise me. The running joke every year used to be "where has Coach Porter applied to this year?" He's either run out of athletes or there aren't any he can poach from Woodmont, Hillcrest, or any others for the foreseeable future. Idk if anyone can turn Laurens around but it'd be interesting to see what he could do with a team like Greenwood.

Nothing new. Porter has been trying to get out of Greenville County for years. One can’t hardly blame him. The district could care less about football and prove it with their total lack of support. But this Greenville team has as much D1 talent as anybody. Surprised they have lost the games they have lost to be honest. But Laurens? That is a tough gig these days.

He is actually getting paid well at Greenville High. That's why this is a surprise to hear.

I think he would take a little decrease in pay to get out of greenville county...

I remember years ago coach Boyd left Lamar and came to Laurens . After a couple of years he went back to Lamar . He said they had more and better athletes in Lamar.
