Re: Spartanburg vs South Pointe
I still confused on the hire of Bobby Collins, if South Pointe had more history as a running offense school, and some Big Running-Backs coming up from the elementary and middle schools, and they would have already been running a mostly running offense in those schools it would be different. We need someone like Northwestern’s last years running-back Turbo Richard, and a big Quarterback that runs the ball, then we might have a chance against South Florence and Westside.

I'll say this WildStallionII - "You wonder if administrative leaders were thinking anybody can win here. Or maybe Coach BC has a history of being good with the kids outside of the gridiron in terms of helping them develop in other areas of life. Whatever the case was; I still do not think based on his resume(particularly his last two stops at Lancaster and Marlboro County) that he should have gotten the South Pointe job. I keep waiting to hear all these accounts of how he has helped kids get to the next level or helped them become better person or something. Because as far as development on the football field; he is not hitting the mark. Each year he has been on campus the team has had at least 1 kid go FBS. No big deal; SP is never lacking raw talent. Cultivated talent and talent that works together as a cohesive unit on the other hand is another thing. He is a better coach than me and two times a good as me on Sundays. But, I am not trying to be a coach - get it?
I was hoping the administration would consider hiring Herron back. Or not be lazy and go get a coach who has challenged the best, but just didn't have the raw talent to work with. BOOM - insert SP - that coach who was pushing teams with better talent than they had with much less talent has access to develop and cultivate the talent-rich South Pointe Stallions program. IDK - maybe they wanted to make sure they made a statement that it's not all about football. I don't get it. But, we could 100% have done better. And to your point, outside of a few seasons that were exceptions, we don't have a big massive OL to just mash people. Team speed is what we have and it's not being used to its fullest potential, unfortunately. Who knows what the future holds - but it's very hard to keep a positive outlook when you have someone in charge with a track record that indicates they can't get it done when it counts. If what I said about wanting to bring in a big brother/mentor type was the thought process - they failed. Even if he's good at it - they failed. Because what these kids that are coming up want just as much is to win so they can show out for their community. If they aren't being put in a good position to do that - the rest of all that isn't as impactful as they probably think. It's not just about winning or losing. It's about keeping a tradition of yes, winning going, and making it better by adding some mentorship(if that was the aim). But, robbing Peter to pay Paul rarely ever works long-term. The sad state of affairs; is the Stallions program currently. Maybe this is penance for the FAST RISE the school took and now it's payback time via having this particular coach"!
Note: I still support it! I still give extra! I feel it's in vain, but I'm not giving up on the kid's efforts. They work and we have to appreciate the work they are putting in.

Accountability/Discipline and unrelenting excellent expectations.
Push some of these kids and "they fold"!
Push some of these kids and they fold, but they have parents/mentors/family "that will help you get them on track especially if what you are insistent on is going to get them somewhere positive"!
IDK - I think it's how you present "the tough part". If everything is "Iron Fist" depending on the person's background it may come off wrong. If they had some structure; you maybe able to lean in. It's all about knowing your audience and dealing with them as individuals; instead of a one-size-fits-all all(not that that is what is happening; because I don't know. Just in general that's how these kids now who may not have structure have to be dealt with).
They have to know and really feel like you are there for them on a level that's deeper than Coach/player! Which is cool; but it's not one-sided. The player has to put in the work too!
I don't know if this is or isn't already happening. Just speculation. But, something is missing. I may not have it nailed down; but something is missing that used to be present.
