Waaay too early hot seat thread
Re: Waaay too early hot seat thread
I watched the Conway, Socastee game tonight. The seat in Conway has to be on fire. It’s one thing to build a program and move in a positive direction even when losing, but I’ve watched a few games and they actually get worse each game. No time clock management, picking up a loose ball on the 20 with 5 players around. You. After 8 games those mistakes should be mute. As I said, you got a coach with 1 year of experience as a head coach and you can tell by just the mental and simple mistakes things are unorganized and no attention to detail. Any 5A school really needs coaching with 4-5 years of experience minimum. Just seems the coach is over his head.

He should resign but we have at least next year to wait it out. Unless the district intervenes like they did with Coach Terry our AD won’t do anything. JV is 6-2 and are 4 points away from 8-0. They have a different staff not on the varsity. Coach Morrow has done a tremendous job with these kids. The sophomores didn’t win but 1 games on B team two years ago. The freshmen won 1 last year on B team. The varsity staff is the worst I’ve ever seen at Conway. I hate to say it but I can’t hold back anymore. I’ve known this since last year but wanted to wait it out. There’s a totally different vibe from JV to varsity. I know varsity isn’t very talented due to poor development under previous staff but you can’t tell me there shouldn’t be improvement by year 2! After two years even in a rebuild you know what you got and I’m convinced we don’t have much. The people are sick and tired of it but the administration refuse to go out and get a big time coach and give him full control to hire a great staff. Instead they want to keep things in the family and not get the best. We don’t want a community 5A rec league team. We want to get back to competing on the state level and finally get that state championship trophy we’ve been so close to winning 4 times.

Some teams across the state are the difference makers in a coach's career. For example, if you lose to X team you won't be here next year. When my son went to Georgetown, Waccamaw was that team. If a coach lost to Waccamaw, you could bet they were not going to be back the next year. St. James and Socastee are the teams for that area. If you lose to them, you don't deserve another year. But I'm on the fence with the guy at Conway. I believe he should be given one more year, but he needs to fire Harvey Wholestaff, and admin there needs to open up some funds to go out and get some big name assistants.Tigerific wrote: ↑Fri Oct 25, 2024 11:15 pmHe should resign but we have at least next year to wait it out. The bolded part is Ninety Six’s problem. We’ve been through 3 coaches since Doolittle’s last reign and we’ve sucked every year besides a couple. The common denominator? Pretty much the same assistant coaching staff. They are just not good coaches. The HC needs to go out and hire experienced, qualified assistants or his tenure will be the same as the previous.coachinggrapevine wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 9:54 amSome teams across the state are the difference makers in a coach's career. Ours has replaced just about every coach. Only two or three are left that he inherited. We’re looking at 2-19 after two years. I know the current varsity team isn’t very talented due to poor development but this is two years in and I see zero improvement. In fact as the losses mount up they regress instead of improving. If you can’t improve each week and get the most out of your team while winning the games you should. It won’t matter how much the JV staff sends up. They will just get wasted. No it’s time to cut bait but unless we fix the administration problem then they will just make another mistake by gambling on an average or unqualified coach again. They better get serious and go after a big fish this time. It’s the only way to get back on top again. The natives are restless in the stands and the complaints are getting louder. We’ve waited through 2 coaches and 7 years now of bad football since Coach Jordan was forced out. As Coach Jordan would say. We’re the dad gum Conway Tigers and it’s time we start acting like it.
